Introduction

Kaunlaran High School organized a Summer Reading Camp with the theme: “I can read
Universe” or “ICARUS” because we believe that reading is a prime key towards effectual
learning to happen in all subject areas. It’s also a window that glimpses us to see the world.

Also, in order to prepare the learners for life challenges particularly on facing the
upcoming school year, we exposed them on various activities in line with reading such reading
selection, reading between the lines, oral reading, getting the meaning through context clues. We
engaged them do it through learnable yet fun full indoor and outdoor games. Through with it we
augmented some students’ facets that includes social, cognitive and emotional condition
particularly their self-confidence.

I. Objective

a. Enhance the reading comprehension skills of the students


b. Develop leadership and cooperation among the groups
c. Participate actively in various activities
d. Boost the confidence of the students through self-expression of the text being read
e. Perform actively the events cited in the reading selection

B. Analysis

Thru various games and activities

All activities, both outdoor and indoor, have been crafted well by the assigned
English teachers for this year’s Summer Reading Camp. Students were catered according
to their individual skills and proficiency in the English Language. The clustering of
students made it easier for each learners to explore enjoy and learn on their own pace and
cognitive level. The success of the camp is not manifested by the number of the
participants who attended but by the active participation and the shared lives of those
who willingly devoted their time and effort for the event.

C. Abstraction

Present the mechanics of every activity indoor and outdoor suited for Able and
Struggling students of incoming grade 8, 9 and 10.

 Get me and Complete Me “Do you Easily Get Confused?”


 Do some challenges like cookie-faced challenge, reading tongue twister,
pulvoron eating etc. and pick sentence instruction then read and answer it to get
piece of puzzle. They need to put together all the puzzle pieces to reveal the learning
of this activity.

 Do What I Say “Memory Verse”


 The first participant will do the sack race to reach the bowl full of memory
verses; the player gets some memory verse and memorizes the verse that he gets. Let that
person step inside the sack again hop back to their lines. Let him pass the verse to the
next person by whispering it in their ear.
 Elements of Story
 Pictures will be shown and students will be asked something about it.
Then, they need to arrive at the meaning of words through context clues to unlock the
difficulties followed by a reading text to be read. Lastly, they need to do the assigned
tasks for every group.

 Fun Ways to Think Race


 This activity let the students to think out of the box. It needs focused and
concentration in order to get the answer correctly.

 Idiomatic Expressions
 One representative of the group will pick one idiom from the box then
he/she will act it out and to some gestures about it. While the other group
members will guess it.

 Define Me: 8 Parts of Speech


 The participants need to define the eight parts of speech. They must read
the reading selection and must identify the examples of each part then
define it base on a given word from the selection.

 Vocabulary Activity
 The facilitator will distribute a card with meaning of word/s to each other
of the participants. The participants will go to the board to match the word
with its meaning.

 Read Me and Find Me


 Each group has different parts of speech. The participants will read a
selection depending on their grade level then they need to find the
meaning of the given part of speech in a selected area where it was hidden.
Then look for at least two word example of the part of speech then they
need to use it in a sentence.

 Act Me Out “Constant Change”


 They need to read the selection entitled “Constant Change” then they need
to answer questions about the selection. The next thing they needed to do
is to get a strip of colored paper to find out the different situations that
have something to do with changes they need to act it out. They must
write a short script for the act that they need to perform. Every member
that will do the act should speak English with confidence.
 Reading Relay
 Each team has a paragraph which was placed on the desk. Every member
will go down the line after one another to read each sentence. After finish
reading they have to smack the desk. Then go back on team’s side and get
another member holding each other’s hand. After all the members had
read the paragraph, they will answer a question. The first team who will
finish it in the quickest time with correct answers will win the game.

 Halukay Relay
 The group will read the posted sentence, after they distinguish the
meaning through context clues they can find it in the box.

 4 Pics 1 Word
 The participants were familiar with this game it is somehow the same as
what they play in their gadget the only difference is that they need to find
the 4 Pics 1 word around the school grounds in order for them to answer it.
There are sets of 4 Pics 1 word to be answered they should complete it all.

D. Application

The activities prepared for the Summer Reading Camp were designed to enhance
not only the reading skills of the students but also to develop their mastery of the
English language through comprehension and communication (oral or written).

Do some challenging tasks, read selections, answer questions, and enjoy.

IV. Closure

“Reading is a gift. It’s something you can do almost anytime and anywhere, it can be
a tremendous way to learn, relax and even escape.”
