[Title] Teach Me All That I Must Know… Or Do? Commented [j1]: Great title!
[Kicker] While knowledge is important, it is not enough; we must act on what we know
in order to return to live with our Father in Heaven.
Do you know the story behindof the songhymn, “I am a Child of God”? Sister Naomi
Randall wrote the song in 1957, and the original words were, “Teach me all that I must
know to live with him someday.” President Kimball loved theis song, but when he heard
these words, he suggested that “know” be changed to “do.” Why would he want this one
word to be changed?
Knowledge is important; it is one of the reasons we go to church every week, and why we
are encouraged to study on our own. But often, our knowledge fails us. Sometimes, Wwe Commented [j2]: This is a great point. I love it!
will come across things that cause us to question and evenmaybe doubt our faith. What if Commented [j3]: I think “things” needs to be defined for

across negative messages or have difficult experiences…”
The words “trials” and “obstacles” could work well here
This is what President Kimball was trying to teach us: the gospel of Jesus Christ is meant too.
to be lived, not just studied. The knowledge we gain must pushlead us to act, and this is
what leads us to God. The Savior said, “If any man will do his will, he shall know of the
doctrine, whether it be of God, or whether I speak of myself” (John 7:17). This should be
a pattern we follow throughout our livesfe: once we learn new things, we shouldthen act
and do those things. When we act on the things we learn, we will then know the truth of
those things.
This Acting on what we learn may seem overwhelming, but Elder Uchtdorf made it
simple in his talk “Believe, Love, Do.” As we do the three simple actions that President Commented [j4]: I think you should mention the source
Uchtdorf outlines—"to believe in [Christ], love as He loved, and do as He did”—we article closer to the beginning of the article. I think you
could make this whole paragraph the third paragraph in

Kimball was trying to teach us” is a good transition. But
it’s up to you how you want to approach it.

Our actions should causelead us to become like Christ andto truly make a difference in
