Positive social responsibility improves a company’s public image and
relationship with consumers. Having a strong CSR program can increase the chances that your company gets news coverage. Corporate social responsibility helps attract and retain engaged and productive employees. Investors care about corporate social responsibility and so should companies. A generation from now, do you think we will still be talking about sustainability? Answer: Corporate Social Responsibility and Sustainability both focused on social and ecological goods but with CSR aiming to competitive advantages through marginal improvements. Sustainability is focused on durable competitive advantages through revolutionary changes. The term (a bit like sustainable intensification) is used by so many different people in so many different ways that it, for some, it becomes misleading. A food company, talking about sustainable supply chains, a farmer talking about a sustainable enterprise, a development person talking about sustainable development, a politician talking about sustainable economic growth, a social scientist talking about a sustainable rural community or an ecologist talking about sustainable land use all use a different conceptualization of what & “sustainable” means, but each often thinks their concept maps neatly across to others. Yes we will still be talking about Sustainability.
