Competency Being Met:

Curriculum Framework Name: Nutrition and Wellness

Curriculum Framework Content Number and Description:

Narrative:

Nutrition and Wellness is an important part of Family and Consumer Sciences and I felt that this video
was a perfect way to teach students about Wellness and its different aspects. I like this video because it
goes through dimension of wellness and it explains it and has visuals for them, and it is simple and easy
to understand. The narrator explains and gives examples of the different dimensions of wellness. For
example, for Social Wellness he makes it relevant to students these days by explaining that social
wellness is not how many followers you have on social media, but rather your interactions and your
relationships with people. Before I show this video to my students I will first ask them what aspects of
wellness they can list. I will ask them to then ask them to take notes and fill in the blanks on a worksheet
I will have made for them to go along with this video. Afterwards, I will ask the students to tell me what
the different aspects of wellness are and then explain to me what they mean, or what they entail. I
believe that by using a video and a fill in the blank worksheet it will help the students to really pay
attention to the video and help them to absorb the information.

Competency Being Met:

Curriculum Framework Name: Food Production, Management, Services

Curriculum Framework Content Number and Description:

Narrative:

This video illustrates and explains the different food groups there are, and their nutrient content. I will
use this video to teach my students the main food groups. I like how in this video there is a point where
the narrator shows a picture and says, “identify which of the following is not a fruit.” It is interactive and
allows the students to use the knowledge they just acquired right away. This video does not show
MyPlate or the Dietary Guidelines for Americans but in the end the narrator asks the students to plan a
balanced meal. At this point in my lesson I will then ask the students to use ChooseMyPlan to create a
balanced diet for a day according to what they learned. I will also ask them to view the Dietary
Guidelines for Americans as well to help them in creating their balanced diet.
