from a bank or a friend so that I will implement the multiple businesses stated
below before you leave the country, for the benefit of myself, my siblings, and
you & mum. Especially on the part of anymore expenditures. You can use my plot
in Mpemba as part of the surety for any loan.
These business ventures are classified as short term, medium term and long term
and as such, it is of my opinion that when implemented, they will generate multiple
streams of income in due time each.
Short Term- *Putting 3 ton truck at Manica and Inisco (universal food products
logistics handler) to be subcontracted in their operations.
Raised bed gardening- as evidenced with our raised beds in Zingwangwa, the
crops grown in them, and the small sales made, we have seen that to make the beds
in a semi-medium scale of 10 beds will allow us to grow an abundance of
vegetables and put to market. Alongside this observation, we have gained
mentorship from a Malawian based Gambian market gardener and we have also
“hired” a recent Bunda graduate of Horticulture (the art and science of gardening)
to be in charge of crop production in the raised beds.
Maize in Mwanza- to prepare the fields beforehand (within the next month) will
allow for the compost to be used to be active when the planting season arrives in
October. Also consulting the same trainer to come and do the landscape layout
plan will ensure success as he has been doing this for the past 5 years.
Compost- with the ever increasing awareness of compost and its help in soil
amendment, demand is ever increasing with both residential clients, small scale
farmers and landscapers contacting for compost. A key to success lie in producing
large heaps sooner, rather than later to anticipate the upcoming growing season.
Another key lies in the fact that we have a very experienced composter we are
ready to work with and set in charge in Mpemba when able to.
Tree farming- with the aide of a tree researcher/grower from Bvumbwe research
station and another grower in Zomba, we will be able to properly set up a Blue
gum farm in Mwanza with the demand for wood for escom ever growing as stated
by the researcher at Bvumbwe research center.
