Additional Materials List – June 2019
The additional exam materials list is updated before each series. You should make sure you
only use the list for the relevant exam series and year.
This list is valid for any exam in the June 2019 exam series where candidates require
additional exam materials. This PDF list will tell you:
• which additional materials candidates need in the exam
• which additional materials you need to provide
• which additional materials we provide
• whether candidates should answer directly on the question paper, on multiple-choice
answer sheets or on an answer booklet provided as an insert in the question paper.
How to use the additional materials list
Use the bookmarks in this PDF to find the qualification, syllabus and component you need.
You can download and print this additional materials list, but you should look out for any
updates before the start of the exam series. We will let you know in the Exams officers
eNewsletter if we update the additional materials list. Make invigilators aware of the
information and have a copy of this list available in the exam room.
• writing paper/answer booklets unless the database states that candidates should
answer on the question paper or multiple-choice answer sheets, or if an answer
booklet has been provided as an insert in the question paper
• rough paper. You should ask candidates to neatly cross through any rough work and
to hand it in with their answer scripts.
• for some mathematics papers, candidates may have been taught using tracing paper
for transformations. Where this is the case you should provide candidates with tracing
paper.
• their own pens (dark blue or black ink for international centres and black ink only for
UK centres), pencils, drawing instruments (including rulers) and erasers
• a calculator, 300mm ruler, protractor, set square and pair of compasses for all science
components.
It is essential that you make sure that candidates do not bring any unauthorised materials into
the exam room. See section 5.1.7 of the Cambridge Handbook for further guidance on this.
• specific materials for us in science exams. You will find these in the relevant syllabus
booklet or in the confidential instructions that come with the question papers
• details of the maps supplied for Cambridge IGCSE Geography components. These
are sent together with the question papers
• the standard materials the centre needs to record speaking and listening tests such as
CDs
• requirements for coursework components
• references to accounting paper, music paper, and A2/A3 drawing paper or technical
drawing equipment. The instructions on the front of the specific question paper state
whether these materials are needed.
Calculators
Candidates may use calculators in exams unless the relevant syllabus and the front of the
question paper state that calculators are prohibited. If the syllabus or the front of the question
paper do not state that calculators are prohibited or do not mention calculators, candidates
can use a calculator if they want to.
Invigilators should check a sample of the candidates’ calculators before the start of the exam
to make sure they comply with our regulations in section 5 of the Cambridge Handbook.
For Associate Centres we may, in consultation with the relevant Cambridge Associate, issue
specific local regulations for the use of calculators. Where this happens, the local regulations
will override any other regulations.
Dictionaries
Electronic dictionaries are not allowed in any exam. This includes tablets and e-readers.
