Penetrating primer for Dekguard Elastic
Uses
As a primer to be used along with Dekguard Elastic to form a
protective and decorative flexible system with elasticity to
withstand subsequent cracking of the concrete substrate.
The system will also protect both new and existing concrete
and masonry structures from attack by water, chlorides,
sulphates, carbon dioxide and other acid gases. It can be
used on a wide variety of structures and building, including
high rise flats, car parks, commercial and industrial buildings,
subways, underpasses and bridges.
Description
Nitoprime DG is a low-viscosity reactive silane-
siloxane/acrylic blend dissolved in a penetrating organic
carrier. The primer performs three distinct functions. It is a
film-forming conditioner for the consolidation and stabilisation
of porous substrates prior to the application of the topcoat, it
will assist the crack-bridging ability of the topcoat and it is
also a reactive penetrant capable of producing a chemically
bound hydrophobic barrier. This prevents the capillary
passage of chloride and sulphate ions, which are otherwise
corrosive towards embedded steel reinforcement.

Instruction for use
Surface preparation
All surfaces should be dry and free from contamination such
as oil, grease, loose particles, decayed matter, moss and
algal growth. Concrete substrates should, in addition, be fully
cured, laitance-free and free from any traces of mould
release oils and curing compounds (other than Nitobond AR).
To ensure an unbroken top coating is achieved, surfaces
containing blowhole o similar areas of pitting should first be
filled by the use of Renderoc FC.

Application
Any areas of glass should be masked. Plants, grass, joint
sealant, asphalt and bitumen-painted areas should be
protected during application.
Work should be programmed to take account of any
restrictions imposed by the weather (see ‘Limitations’
above).
All prepared substrates should first be primed using
Nitoprime DG. The primer should be applied as several
flood coats until the recommended application rate of 0.4

using portable spay equipment (knapsack-type sprayer). A

The primer must be allowed to dry for a minimum of 2 hours

Cleaning
All equipment should be cleaned with Fosroc Solvent 102.
Limitation
Nitoprime DG can be applied over a wide variety of
substrates. However, If any doubt exists about the nature
of a particular substrate, Fosroc Technical Department
should be consulted. it should not be applied over existing
coating materials.
Nitoprime DG should not be applied where there is a
likelihood of exposure to frost within 48 hours of the
application. Similarly, it should not be applied in windy
conditions, where early-age dust adhesion may occur, or

where rain is likely within 6 hours at 20 C of the application.
Humidity exceeds 90%. Application of Nitoprime DG should
exposure to ponded water.

Products have a shelf life of 12 months I kept in a dry store
