Narrative Report of Demonstration Teaching

In February 20, 2019, Pedro E. Diaz High School was scheduled for the observation of
Demonstration Teaching. The Araling Panlipunan (AP) Department was given a tasked to
prepare a simple program and arranged the venue for the actual observation. Mr. Johnatan C.
Eugenio, Teacher I of the aforementioned school was requested to deliver the task. Afterwards,
the teacher accepted the challenged and carefully crafted a lesson plan suited for the ability of
learners to respond actively in the classroom discussion. However, during the process of
preparation the bracket of the section was considered a major challenge. Considering that Grade
9-Mulawin belongs to Lower Section. The demo-teacher was quite apprehensive of the outcome
of the performance of learners. At around 12:30 pm, the observers started to arrive. A total of
thirteen (13) observers coming from Disrict I have arrived, nine (9) teachers of grades 7 and 10
in PEDHS graced the event and two (2) important personalities from the Division Office of
Muntinlupa supervised the entire process of demo-teaching.

The Education Program Supervisor of Araling Panlipunan Mrs. Mariel Eugene L. Luna
and PSDS Mrs. Virginia Cagampang headed the delegation of observers. The program officially
started at 2:00 pm, Mr. Joseph Cabasal led the prayer and subsequently followed by the
Nationalistic Song. Thereafter, the demo-teaching commenced, the teacher did the usual
classroom routine of checking the attendance, balik-aral and balitaan. He adopted the singing in
unison of “Magtanim ay di Biro” to instill awareness on important roles of Agricultural Sector.
Then, he asked the students to share their insights of the significance of the message of the song.
At first, they were stunned at not participative when the teacher asked series of questions about
the relevance of the song to their daily life.

To appease the learners, the teacher tried to soften the questions for them to comprehend
the topic. Surprisingly, they started to join in the discussion and later on actively participated in
the discussion. When the teacher felt that the learners were comfortable and have had adjusted to
the pressure of the observation, he stemmed the lecture with enthusiasm and utilized the HOTS
in the art of questioning to awaken the cognitive sense of learners, pierced their emotions, and
sublimed their affection to the farmers and workers of the agricultural sector.
To identify the pressing issues and concerns of the Agricultural Sector. The matrix of
possible problems of the topic was posted on the board and divided it into three (3) categories:
1.) Pagsasaka 2.) Pangisdaan 3.) Panggubat. They were instructed to identify in the rumbled
strips of papers (with corresponding captions of the pressing issues of the topic) and place it
appropriately on the matrix. The students diligently adhere to the instructions and meticulously
scrutinized the proper captions and posted it on the matrix. Afterwards, they were asked to
explain their answers. Indeed the students explained extensively, however one student
inappropriately placed his answer on the matrix.

To further elaborate the topic, picture analyses were presented using the Smart TV
powered by Powtoon. After that, the class was divided into three group: group 1.) Pagsasaka 2.)
Pangisdaan 3.) Panggugubat. Group one was assigned to do the Spoken Poetry, Group two was
the Art Exhibit and Group three was the video advocacy. The rubrics have been shown on Smart
TV and explained by the teacher. They were given 15 minutes to accomplish their tasks.
Undeniably, they were able to produce comprehensive output and presented it properly in the
class; the output was given a corresponding grade and fully appreciated by the teacher. To
measure the learning outcome, the demo-teacher gave five (5) item quiz. After checking the quiz,
the results revealed that majority of learners got 4/5.

POST- CONFERENCE ASSESSMENT

The post-conference was held at Learning Resource Center. Most of the observers
mentioned the following observations: 1.) they admired the art of questioning of the demo-
teacher 2.) They appreciated the flexibility and creativity of the learners 3.) They were surprised
that even though Grade 9 - Mulawin belongs to the bracket of lower sections, they were able to
participate actively and produced comprehensive output. The Araling Panlipunan (AP)
supervisor Mrs. Mariel Luna asked the demo-teacher, what part in the process of execution of the
lesson plan should be changed or modified? The teacher answered to avoid any technical
difficulties in the rewind and fast-forward of the lesson using ICT, instead he should use the
Kinemaster application. The AP supervisor stressed that it would be better if the teacher
capitalized the Balitaan as springboard to lesson proper.
At that point, she encouraged the teacher to give a SWOT Analysis of his experienced in
the demo-teaching. Strength - the teacher would be able to identify the potentials of learners and
utilized it, it was an advantage to handle your students because you can adjust to the actual
classroom situations if you feel that they are at ease, and the level of interaction was smooth.
Weakness- the classroom is not conducive for learning due to confronting problems of noise
pollution along the SLEX, the ventilation should be improved and the students were not familiar
with that kind of observation. Opportunities- the observation was an opportunity to showcase the
talent of learners, especially in the lower section. Threats - technical difficulties was a slight
threat, using a lower section was somehow a gamble during the Division demo-teaching and
likewise accepting this daunting task was seemingly a major threat on the part of teacher due to
sleepless nights and mixed emotions. In general, the AP supervisor commends the demo-teacher.

As a matter of fact, she posted on Facebook that the demo-teaching of Mr. Johnatan C.
Eugenio was a very productive day for all the observers seeing the outcome of the latter and
acting on a challenge of showcasing his classroom best practices that made learning easy for his
students experience. Exploring a wide variety of techniques that combined ICT-enabled and
multi-disciplinary approach in his Economics class. Finally, she praised the Principal of PEDHS
headed by Dr. Rosendo Sangalang, Principal IV and Mrs. Felipa R. Dawa, AP Head Teacher.
