C.
1. Melody 1 contains a single short scalar pattern at m.51.
Melody 2 contains a single short arpeggiation at m. 5.
2. Both melodies begin on the third scale degree and contain step
progressions downward (Melody 1: D# - C# - B - A# - G# - F# ;
Melody 2: D - C - Bb - A - G).
3. Both melodies reach upward to the dominant early and then descend,
Melody 1 to the dominant an octave below and Melody 2 to the tonic.
4. Both melodies contain a two measure pattern that is sequenced downward.
5. Different meters and different keys do not offset the many similarities in
these two melodies. Beyond the points mentioned above, note that
mm.47-48 of Melody 1 and mm.1-2 of Melody 2 employ exactly the same
scale members. Likewise compare mm. 51-52 with mm.3-4.
