RESOURCE BOOK

with effect from June 2018

Introduction

The tremendous effect of the computer and computing technology is in shaping modern
society for the betterment of mankind.

While computer science being implemented in schools of TamilNadu, we need to be

aware of the challenges that our school students face. The first of these is the paucity of
technology resources for computer science. It is absurd to teach computer science without
access to computing resources.

Getting computer access and internet connectivity for all children is a tremendous
technological and economic challenge.

However, given the pervasive impact of computer technologies, we need to attend to this
infrastructure challenge seriously and explore viable and innovative alternatives with
regard to hardware, software and internet connectivity technologies appropriate for rural
and urban schools in TamilNadu.

The present computertext book is prepared in accordance to the National Curriculum

Framework 2005 and TamilNadu Curriculum Framework 2017. One of the most basic and
useful tools an instructor possesses is the textbook. Therefore utmost care has been taken
to cover all the requirements needed for the teachers, students and parents.

The computer textbook is broadly classified as below.

Career guidance is given to help the students acquire the knowledge, information, skills,
and experience necessary to identify career options, and narrow them down to make one
career decision.

Reducing Stress and Enhance Success in theXI and XII Exams

• Shift from content based testing to problem solving testing.

• Make student understand content, as rote learning, cause stress.

• Shift Class Test of shorter duration with flexible time to reduce stress

• Malpractices and Postponement of test should be avoided.

• Conduct practical test as and when students feel prepared.

• Eliminate the terminology of ‘Pass’-Fail’;

Teachers need to be prepared to

• care for the children,.

• understand children within social, cultural and political contexts.

• be receptive and be constantly learning .

• view learning as a search for meaning out of personal experience, and knowledge
generation.

• view knowledge not only as embedded in the textbooks, but also as teaching-learning
and personal experience.

• own responsibility towards society, and work to build a better world.

• appreciate the potential of students inside and outside the classroom.

Conclusion

This handbook is meant for guiding the teachers at the initial level before handling the
classes and to find the suitable methodologies to make the classroom interactions very
effective.

This handbook should always remind us as educators, never to stop thinking about new
ways and how to become better educators whilst always keeping with the parameters of
our profession.

Wishing teachers for an outstanding teaching learning process.

All the very best in your future endeavors

From Chapter -6 Specification and Abstraction

• Specification of an algorithm consists of the name of the algorithm along

• Specification of an algorithm is a contract between the designer and users of

the algorithm

• Abstraction is the process of hiding or ignoring the details irrelevant to the

task

• State is a basic and important abstraction. The state at any point of execution
is simply the values of the variables at that point.

depending on the state of the process

• Three important control flow statements- Sequential, Alternative, Iterative
