Outline for test

Part 1: Identifying forces

In the video, use key frames to draw interaction diagrams to show what forces are present.
Afterwards, draw force diagrams for each key frame.
Determine whether the system is in equilibrium, or whether there is a net force. If there is a net
force, use a force vector to show its direction

Part 2: Newton’s Laws of Motion

(i) N1 tells us that object at rest, will stay at rest unless acted on by an external force. Objects in
uniform motion will stay that way unless acted on by an external force
(ii) N2 relates acceleration to net force.

(iii) N3 says that all forces come in pairs. For each force there is an equal and opposite “reaction
force” that is on the agent of the first force.

(a) In the following examples: tell whether equilibrium is acheived

(b) Below is a problem and a solution, but the solution is missing some details. Identify which of
Newton’s Laws of motion are used, and reference them explicitly.

(c)

(d) Create a problem that can be solved by understanding dynamic equilibrium

Create a problem that needs an application of Newton’s second Law to solve.

Part 4: Applications
Fred was collecting some data on acceleration for different applied forces. Unfortunately he
wasn’t being all that careful and rounded all his data to the nearest 0.5 whole number. From the
chart, it is almost linear.

(i) Explain to Fred why the relationship is linear, using your understanding of concepts from this
section, and what is the significance of the slope.

(ii) draw a line of best fit and calculate its slope.

(iii) Given the following meme, explain where the problem lies. Use force diagrams, written
explanation to correct the scenario.
