Describe how you would incorporate an Online Project/Collaboration Site/Publishing Opportunity in your
classroom I would incorporate an online project/collaboration site in my classroom by implementing it into
some of my lessons. I think these types of technology are great for getting students to share their thoughts
and ideas with one another.
This can inspire them and give them different viewpoints and ideas for their own assignments. I believe it is
important that children learn from not only me as an educator, but from each other as well. This is a great
way to do that.
What technologies would be required to implement this proposed learning activity in a classroom? A
computer, and a camera.
Describe how the following features are addressed in this learning experience (note: all of them may not be
addressed in the project, but most should be if you are reaching a high LoTi Level).
a. Collaboration with peers, near-peers, mentors outside their classroom and often beyond their
school: Students are able to share their art works with one another, and others who may come across
the website. They can further discuss the different works of art from there.
b. Student-centered learning and knowledge creation (creating original data and or producing original
products as a result of engaging in a project): Students are asked in this lesson idea to think of a happy
memory they’ve had and paint it on a white piece of paper. This involves them creating an original
product that will then be posted onto the website.
c. Higher-order thinking: Students will have to think of their favorite happy memory on their own. They
are encouraged to take their time thinking of this memory.
d. Students publishing their original work to others who will use/care about their product: The students
in the class will be required to look at everyone’s finished pieces, and complement at least 3 of them.
Additionally, each student’s parents may be interested in looking at their child’s art.

Universal Design for Learning (UDL):

Engagement: Students are engaged by having the freedom to paint whichever memory they want, whichever
one makes them the happiest! There will also be many different colors to choose from.
Representation: The paintings will not only be displayed on the website, but also will be displayed in our
classroom for everyone to enjoy!
Action and Expression: Students will express themselves throughout this lesson through painting. They are

encouraged to express their feelings with different shapes, lines, and colors.

Lesson idea implementation and Internet Safety Policies: After the children have painted their favorite
happiest memory I will take pictures of each one, and upload them to the online project website. Following
this, I will put each child’s first name and last initial under each picture in order to keep them safe. I will also
post onto my classroom blog that I am doing this so that each child’s parents are aware. After the paintings
are on the website we will look at them as a class and talk about them. Students will then complement each
other’s art, stating what they like best about each piece.
Reflective Practice: I feel like this lesson idea gives students a creative outlet to express themselves, while
incorporating technology. There are many ways to further extend this lesson. For example, we could then
talk about different shapes, patterns, lines, and brush strokes they can use to convey emotion. There are also
many other technology tools that can be added to this lesson. For example, I could post the students’ artwork
on my classroom blog for parents to see.
