b) The BOP stack and the accumulator unit
c) The BOP stack and an Annular Preventer
(5) What is the difference between hole pack off and hole bridge?
a) Hole pack off means complete loss of circulation, with
hole bridging circulation is still possible.
b) Hole pack off means circulation is still possible, with
hole bridging circulation is completely lost.
c) There isn’t one, hole bridging is just another name for
hole pack off
(6) The mud used will be matched to the formation being drilled.
For example, with a clay formation, which sort of mud should
be used?
a) Water based
b) Polymer or oil based
c) Either
(7) What is a casing hanger used for?

inside the well head.
b) To attach or hang liners from the internal wall of a
previous casing string
c) To support the tubing string.
(16) What does the term Abnormal Pressure mean with regarding
pressure.
formation.
d) The use of pit volume and flow rate measuring devices to recognize a
kick.
(18) What is the secondary control method to be used if the primary control
failed?
2- Differential
(22) Water base mud is bringing soft mushy cutting over the shaker: What
down hole problem does this indicate?
a. A soft shale formation is being drilled.
b. A water-sensitive shale is adsorbing water from the mud.
c. Excessive circulating rate is washing out a shale formation.
d. A mobile shale formation is squeezing into the wellbore.
(23) The decision of pulling a worn bit should be based on:
1- ROP
2- Rotary Torque
(25) For a well with 15000 ft MD and 10000 ft TVD and the hole is full with 10
ppg mud, what is the maximum hydrostatic pressure ………..
1- 5200 psi
2- 7800 psi
(26) List the standard Bit/Casing sizes from the biggest conductor to the
smallest production casing. Casing Bit/Hole
30"
20" 26"
13 3/8" 17 1/2"
9 5/8" 12 1/4"
7" 8 1/2"
5" 6"
(27) What is the key seat? Where is it dangerous at the top or the BTM of
the hole? Explain why?
Key seat is a key seat shaped hole drilled side by side the original hole in a
dog leg or a high angle in the well caused by drill sting rotation and
reciprocation.
It will be dangerous at with depth. Because at the top (Soft formation) so if the
key seat formed there it can be removed easily but in the deeper sections
(Hard formations) if it formed there it may cause drill string sticking.
(28) List the types of drill bits you know and the difference between each
other?
Drag bit: 1- PDC: its cutter a poly crystalline diamond over tungsten carbide
1- Insert tooth: the cutters is from tungsten carbide which inserted to the
cone body
2- Milled tooth: the cutters from the same material of the cones
(29) What is the selecting criteria you should use to select Land/Offshore
drilling rigs?
For Land rigs: The max. Drilling depth (Rig capacity) and rig mobility
(30) List the solid control equipment you know? Explain the function of both of
them?
(31) Differentiate between Swap & Surge and what are the problems you can
face for both of them?
Swap: sudden decrease in btm hole press while pooh. & the Problem is:
Kick/blow out
Surge: Sudden increase in btm hole press. While rih. & the Problem is loss of
circ./fm frac.
