Myths and Magic

Gandalf and Balrog

Lord of the Rings - Gan…

Gandalf fighting Balrog “The Demon of the Ancient World” is my favorite part of the
Lord of the Rings. This story within the story is genius. It has to do with ancient history
or history for that matter. History is written by the winner and it is not always truthful. I
believe this myth is referring to ancient history hence “The Demon of the Ancient
World”. Remember this story is about you. You are in middle earth and all the
characters are aspects of you. Gandalf says “This force is beyond any of you”. The
meaning of this is Balrog is ancient history, one huge demonic lie. He tells them it’s
beyond them because the lie is so huge that very few can make it through the
labyrinth and find the truth. So they run like most people do when they see some truth.
At a certain point Gandalf stops and says “You shall not pass!” Meaning I will not
accept the huge demonic lies anymore! From here on out, I will only except the truth.
He announces “I am the servant of the secret fire, wielder of the flame of Anor. You
can not pass. The dark fire will not avail you flame of Udun. Go back to the shadow.
You cannot pass!” Remember this is your inner battle and he’s telling these lies to go
back to the shadow of your mind. The demon refuses and attacks. Like all things in
the subconscious, it needs to be brought to the surface. He falls and brings Gandalf
(you) with him.

Now you’re so deep into ancient history, you have to deal with it, all the huge
demonic lies. You uncover one truth after another, it feels like your falling and
spinning while you’re battling these lies. Falling and battling and finally you get to the
point you can’t take it anymore. “Until at last you threw down your enemy and smote
his ruin on the mountain side”. You feel like your going to die. You hurt for humanity.
You’ve uncovered all this knowledge, but will anyone believe you. When you first
woke up, did you feel like you had a new life? You have a choice to use this
knowledge for good or evil. Gandalf chooses good and goes back as the white
wizard. He does not remember his name, symbolic of his change. Now that your
awake your life is probably totally different from what it was before your awakening.
Become Gandalf the White and use your knowledge for good.
