Welcome and Announcements

+Silent Prayer
Almighty God, whose blessed Son was led by the Spirit to be tempted by Satan: Come quickly
to help us who are assaulted by many temptations; and, as you know the weaknesses of each
of us, let each one find you mighty to save; through Jesus Chris your Son our Lord, who lives
and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

Call to Worship

*Hymn of Praise to God

“Come, Let Us Sing unto the Lord” No. 16

+Confession of Sin

Lord, rebuke me not in thy wrath,

For in thee do I hope, O Lord, my salvation.
For thy mercy is great unto the heavens,
And thy truth unto the clouds.
Be thou exalted above the heavens,
O God, thy glory above the earth.
Corelli/arr. P. Christiansen

Corporate Prayer
We confess to You, Almighty God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit; that we have grievously
sinned in thought, word, and deed. Forgive our sins through Christ Jesus. Make us truly
contrite. Fill us with holy fear; and give us grace to amend our lives according to your Word.
Almighty and merciful Father, restore our souls in Jesus Christ, that we may be merciful
and kind, even as you are. Let your forgiveness make us willing to forgive all wrong which
we have suffered, and to ask forgiveness for every wrong which we have done. Give us the
spirit of our Lord Jesus Christ who dwelt among men in great humility, and was meek and
lowly of heart. Let the same mind be in us which was also in Him. Let our love and charity be
abundant as our joy, that our hearts may be tender to all need, and our hands give freely for
His sake. And grant that, being rooted and grounded in the mystery of the Son of God being
made flesh for us, we may receive power to overcome the world and gain the life eternal
through the same Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Assurance of Pardon
The Lord passed before him and proclaimed, “The Lord, the Lord, a God merciful and
gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness, keeping steadfast
love for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin.” Exodus 34:6-7 (ESV)

Worship of God with Tithes and Offerings

“Lord, to Thee Do I Lift My Soul” …………………………………………….……. Antonio Vivaldi (1678 – 1741)

Lord, who throughout these forty days

For us did fast and pray,
Teach us with you to mourn our sins,
And close by you to stay.
As you with Satan did contend
And did the vict’ry win,
O give us strength in you to fight,
In you to conquer sin.
As you did hunger and did thirst,
So teach us, gracious Lord,
To die to self and so to live
By your most Holy Word.
Abide with us, that through this life
Of suff’ring and of pain
An Easter of unending joy
We may at last attain.
Claudia Frances Hernaman (1873)

+Silent Prayer
O Lord, who for our sake fasted forty days and forty nights; Give us grace to use such

your godly motions in righteousness, and true holiness, to your honor and glory,
who lives and reigns with the Father and the Holy Ghost, one God, world without
end.

Almighty God, who hast me brought in safety to the present day,

Keep me from sin in heart and thought, and teach me what to do and say.

This Evening
This evening Pastor Nicoletti will continue his series on 1-2 Samuel, looking at 1 Samuel 9. The Lord’s
Supper will be served. The Lord’s Supper is observed every Lord’s Day at Faith Presbyterian Church
alternating between the morning and the evening services. The officers have wanted to retain evening
communion not only because all the Lord’s Suppers explicitly mentioned in the New Testament were
in the evening, but as well to reinforce the importance of Sunday evening worship as a regular part
of the observance of the Lord’s Day.

Covenant High School Presents The Capper Trap

March 21 & 22, 7:30 pm
Madcap capers ensue when crafty criminals pit themselves against a blundering wealthy family.
Wanda Winthrop has arranged a marriage between her two sons and the twin daughters of eccentric
millionaire philanthropist Martin Von Mark. Fast entrances and exits and mistaken identities make
this wacky farce from award-winning playwright Matthew Begbie a delightful treat sure to tickle your
funny bone!

Baby Shower for Elissa Burke

Let’s prepare a warm welcome for Baby Girl Burke due to arrive this spring! Ladies, please join us in
showering Elissa with our love and lots of sweet things that a baby girl needs. Tuesday, March 26th at
7:00 pm in DeSoto Hall. You may contribute to the group gift at the shower box in the narthex. Please
put cash in an envelope marked “Elissa”; checks should be made out to Elsie Dye. Elissa is registered
at amazon.com.
Wedding Shower for Mary Simpson
Save the date, Thursday, April 4th to celebrate! Our dear Mary Simpson is getting married. Let’s have
an April Shower, full of gifts and fun! You may contribute to the group gift in the shower box in the
narthex. Please put cash in an envelope marked “Mary”; checks should be made out to Sandy Milton.
The couple are registered at Macy’s and Target.

Luke 15 Prayer Group
Starting this Wednesday, a Luke 15 prayer group will meet every 2nd Wednesday of the month to pray
for the adult children of our congregation who are questioning or rejecting faith.  This concern is
heavy on many hearts in our church, so if you would like to add your voice to the prayers for the
spiritual lives of these beloved children, join us at 6:30 pm, in Room 105 downstairs.

Eat, Talk, Pray: Wednesday Night Fellowship Meals
This past Wednesday we began once again to offer dinner before prayer meeting. These meals will
be on the 1st and 3rd Wednesdays of the month, the next one being March 20th. Come and enjoy – eat,
talk, then pray. Mark your calendar; you won’t want to miss out!

Can you hear me now?
There is one aspect of our worship that we hope you never think about: the sound system! (Because,
if you are thinking about it, something has probably just gone wrong. Sorry.) There is a small team
of volunteers that manages the sound board and video feed for our services. If you are interested
in learning how this technology works or in joining our team, there are two training opportunities
coming up. You may choose to meet us in the sanctuary either on Thursday, March 28th, at 7:00 pm
or on Saturday, March 30th, at 9:00 am. Contact Doug Lawty, if you have any questions.
Me, a Seminary Student?
Covenant Seminary now provides on-line theological education for those who may be contemplating
seminary, either as ministers-to-be or simply to take on-line courses. The seminary offers several
on-line degrees, making it possible for people to stay rooted in their current community and church
while getting a seminary education. Dr. Mike Higgins, Dean of Students at Covenant Seminary, will
be in Seattle the end of the month. An informal breakfast is planned on Saturday morning, March
30th at 9am at the Grace Church Seattle office, which is at 400 E Pine Street, Suite 215, Seattle 98112. It
will be an opportunity for prospective students to find out more about what Covenant has to offer.

Adult Sunday School

• The Women of Faith Class I (Room 117) Martyrs and Missionaries and the Persecuted Church: In
this Sunday School class we are reading stories and books about past and current missionaries
and persecuted Christians around the world.  We want to be aware of the plight of the persecuted
church of today and to pray for them regularly.
• The Women of Faith Class II (Covenant High School Office) We are studying together the book
Union with Christ by Rankin Wilbourne.
• The Word of Faith Class (Sanctuary) Elder Mike Pfefferle continues his fascinating and very
valuable introduction to early Christianity.
• High School Sunday School (North Side of DeSoto Hall) High schoolers, hear this, you don’t
want to miss the 4-week Sunday School that starts today.  Come prepared to learn and do.  We’ll
practice some key relationship building skills that you can use to be a support to others, comfort
those in grief, and understand the lives of people around you.
• Better English on Sixth ESL Sunday School (Room 304) Kathy Lewis facilitates the Better
English class where individual American partners help each international who wishes to read or
discuss material at an appropriate level of English.  Please contact Kathy or Jonathan Nichols if
you would like to become a partner or assist Better English on Sixth in any way.
Men of Faith, Morning Prayer Meetings & Devotions
There are opportunities to meet with fellow Men of Faith for prayer and devotions each week:
• Wednesday mornings with Phil Perkins: We meet at Bluebeard Coffee Roasters, 2201 6th Avenue
in Tacoma. This group meets at 6 am for Bible reading and prayer. After several years we
continue to focus solely on the Psalms which serve as a life guide. This is our third time through
the Psalms over the course of nine years. One of the ancient church fathers, Athanasius wrote,
“Whatever your particular need or trouble, from this same book (the Psalms) you can select a
form of words to fit it, so that you...learn the way to remedy your ill.”
• Thursday mornings with Thom Wilson, 6:30 am at the church. Join us in studying through the
Gospel of John as we pray for our concerns and the world around us.

College & Career Community Groups

College & Career is a young adult ministry of Faith Presbyterian Church. The goal is to provide
opportunities for young adults 18 and older, whether single or married, to “do life” together
throughout the week and form deep Christian friendships. C&C Community Groups are weekly small
groups that meet in a home for dinner and fellowship. We have one group that meets on Thursdays
at Nate and Rachel Shelden’s home at 6:30, and another group that meets on Tuesdays at Isaac and
Elsie Dye’s home at 6:30. For more details, or if you’re interested in joining a C&C Community Group,
please contact one of us and we’ll help you get connected!

A Reminder about Parking

As a courtesy to our neighbors, please do not park on the south side of South 8th Street, on South
Winnifred Street behind the church, or where the curb is painted yellow. Also, please save the spots
next to the building marked “reserved” for our elderly and those with mobility limitations.

Nursing Mothers
In addition to the nursery rooms, Room #117 – the Women in the Church room, is open and available
for your convenience during all Worship Services. The service can be seen and heard in the WIC
room.

Hearing Assistance
If you would like a device to help with hearing the worship service, please see a Deacon.
