Lesson Plan Template

PURPOSE:
▪ Goals: The students will learn the literacy & daily 5 workstation topic vocabulary, word
work & writing.
▪ Objectives: The specific skills/strategies addressed in each workstation (align this with
the TEKS expectation).
1. The students will be able to decode words using syllables.
2. The students will be able to identify, use, and explain the meaning of antonyms,
synonyms.
3. Students will be able to come up with a root word with having the prefix for
them.

TEKS:
▪ Grade-level TEKS for the class. Write the specific TEKS that will be addressed in each
literacy station.
1. TEKS: 3.1 Reading/Beginning Reading Skills/Phonics
a. Students use the relationship between letters and sounds, spelling
patterns, and morphological analysis to decode written English
i. B. Use common syllabication patterns to decode words including:
1. Closed syllable
2. Open syllable

2. TEKS: 3.3 Developing and sustaining foundational language skills. The student is
expected to:
D) Identify, use, and explain the meaning of antonyms, synonyms,
idioms, homophones, and homographs in a text.

After the student has rolled the dice and
created a word I will make sure that the student
knows what word they have created and are
able to match it to the correct image that
corresponds to the word.

Title of Activity: Prefixes
Materials for Activity
● Poster board
● Post it notes
Teacher Modeling Procedures:
First explain to students what prefixes are. I will
also give the students an example in each
category to give them an idea of how to do it.
Workstation Procedures for Students:
I will first give the student time to think about
examples for each different kind prefix. Once
the student has an idea they will write it on a
post it notes and one by one go up to the board.
Teacher Checking for Understanding
After each student has put one post it notes on
the board I would see if the students are able to
give us a sentence that includes that prefix.
Formative Assessment: The students will work with a buddy to answer the following question,
“What did you learn at each station?” They will then share with the whole group the ideas they
came up with.

Workstation Procedures for Students:
1. Students will flip over two cards
and try to match the synonyms
together and the antonyms
together.
2. If they do not match, they flip
the cards back over and it is the
next person’s turn.
3. Students will have to memorize
where the words are, so they
can use it as a strategy to match
the synonyms/antonyms
together.
Teacher Checking for Understanding:
After the student flips the cards over, I
will ask them if they are
Synonyms/Antonyms to each other. If
they are, they get to keep the cards.
