Barkley, 2015; Soni, Upadhyay, & Jain, 2017), and (e) low academic performance
(Alosaimi, Alyahya, Alshahwan, Al Mahyijari, & Shaik, 2016; Hawi & Samaha, 2016;
Junco & Cotton, 2012; Lepp, Barkley, & Karpinski, 2015; Samaha & Hawi, 2016). In
particular, adolescents and young adults spend a great portion of their day using their
communicating with their friends; transferring their experiences as well as following the
“daily progress” of others in social media posts. Most teens are actively engaged in
SNSs (Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp etc.) use on their smartphones (Gezgin &
Çakır, 2016) and as Sterling (2017) suggests, around 80% of social media activities
are carried out over smart mobile devices. However, it is also reported that the
workplaces and classrooms, as they provide individuals with access to texting, games,
social media and internet. Given these features, mobile phones have the potential to
reduce the attention students pay to classes and can therefore be detrimental to
learning (Beland & Murphy, 2015). There are debates in many countries as to how
schools should address the issue of mobile phones. Some advocate for a complete
ban while others promote the use of mobile phones as a teaching tool in classrooms

and use mobile phones to increase their low self-esteem (Phillips, Ogeil &
Blaszczynski, 2011).

Out of 209 respondents, 85 students said that they always use their smartphone
in terms of their study, this is 40% of the total respondents. While 71 students said that
they often use their smartphone to their study, that’s the 34% of the respondents. 41
students said that they sometimes use theirs smartphones in their study and that’s the
20% of the respondents. Then 8 students said that they seldom use their smartphone
in their study and that’s the 4% of the total respondents. And 4 students said that they
never use smartphones in their student habits because they don’t have any
smartphone in terms of study is a big factor affecting the students study habits, based
on the data gathered, 40% of the respondents said that they always use smartphones

affect their daily lifestyle and that’s the 9% of the total respondents. And 14 students
said that the social media never affect their daily lifestyle because they don’t have any

smartphones and that’s 7% of the total respondents. Social media has a high
parallel to the statement of Jennifer walsh (2013) that students who spent most of their
time using smartphone has a high possibility of having fewer academic performance,
such as completing homework and attending class, lower academic confidence and
more problems affecting their school works, and the top of that is lack of sleep.
Out of 209 respondents, 14 students said that mobile games are always help
them to relax their mind and to have a rest, this is 7% of the total respondents. While
11 students said that mobile games are often help them to relax, that’s the 5% of the
respondents. 38 students said that mobile games are sometimes help them in their
study habits and that’s the 18% of the respondents. Then 47 students said that mobile
games are seldom help them in their study habits and that’s the 23% of the total
respondents. And 99 students said that mobile games are never help them in their
study habits because they don’t have any smartphones and that’s 47% of the total
respondents, the effect of mobile games depends on how the students interpret the
information’s coming from mobile games according to Korkmaz (2015) that there are
different ways of learning in smartphones, the game based mobile learning, note taking
using mobile tools video based and search engine based learning, however the
learning of the students depends on what are their usual study habits.
