How Has Social Media Impacted Students Learning Abilities Now Versus Students
Learning Abilities in the 1980’s When There Was Not Social Media?

Trying to figure out one question to write about this whole semester was pretty

difficult. For a few days I brainstormed ideas, but none of them seemed interesting

enough to spend so much time and work on. I was talking to my mom after school and

she was saying that she read the students today are more stressed out than she was

when she was growing up. I was thinking about everything that teenagers do these

days, and I would have to agree that we have more stressors than people did back

then. Today, kids really can’t take a break from their friends or their school life, because

it’s all online nowadays. Back when our parents were growing up, you would have to

call someone if you wanted to talk to them or talk to them in person when you saw them

during work or school.

I think teenagers nowadays are so stressed out, because of always being on

their phones and then a few hours go by and you still have a lot of work left to do. Also,

it’s hard to study when you can get on Instagram for a “quick study break”, and before

you know it it’s already midnight and you need to go to bed. I think social media has had

an affect on teenagers abilities to study properly, because it has become hard to put the

phone down and focus on tasks we aren’t particularly fond of.

I feel that this topic is good for helping teenagers, including myself, understand

that life is not all about social media. And that we all need to focus a little bit more on

our education rather than focusing on your Instagram picture getting 400 likes. I think

that the topic is not something that is talked about a lot on the mainstream media. This

is because many people have just gotten in the habit of always being distracted by their

phones that they don’t even know that they are doing it. I believe that many teenagers

are struggling with their busy schedules, having tons of schoolwork, and looking at

social media. I think that if society is able to cut down the time spent on the internet then

we would see many changes in grades and social skills. We already know that life is

changing very fast these days with all of the technology improvements. And we all know

that kids are always looking at their phones. But what we don’t know is the difference

between phones and no phones and their education.

I still need to know many things about this topic, like how were the grade scales

in the 1980’s and how are they now. I also need to learn about how teachers have

changed their ways of teaching throughout the years. I think I can start finding out these

answers by asking my parents what school was like when they were growing up. I can

learn by looking up on the internet about topics like mine. I want to answer what

education differences are there now versus the 1980’s? And I want to answer how the

grades in school have been affected by social media?
