Investment Bankers helps institutions in Fund raising (either IPO or Secondaries) and in
M&A.

The could be of two types of Investment Banks you can target - Bulge Bracket/MNCs and
Indian Banks.

Bulge Bracket consists of world’s largest global investments Banks. It includes the
likes of BAML, Barclays, CitiGroup, CS, Goldman, JP Morgan, Morgan Stanley, UBS. I’ve
also included other MNC Banks (Moelis, Standard Chartered, etc.) in this category
because they do the same work and give the same pay.
They typically have a 8–15 member team and are very selective in their hiring policy.
There are very ...

I’ll begin with my background. Post that, I’ll put forth my story of transformation into an
Investment Banker.
Note : Read this answer completely to get a realistic opinion.

Few years back, I cleared CA final and started working with a Big 4 firm in audit team.
Pretty much frustrated by the routine nature of work, I started looking for other options
in Core Finance. Thus, terms such as Valuations, Equity research, Financial modeling
and Investment banking were the first that came to my mind.
Finally, I got convinced by my fellow mates in the office (Who were in Valuations
already) to make a ...

In indian context, until and unless you are from tier-1 MBA college, there are no “short”
or “direct” routes to get into investment banking.

However, if you have already done your MBA, but still couldn’t get your foot into this
field, or if you’re a fresh undergraduate, then I have some achievable options that you
might consider.

1. Take up a job in non-core finance field ( Financial due diligence, Audit,

Taxation etc.) in a Big 4 firm and show excellent performance for few years .
Later you might request your HR to make an Internal Switch for getting the
desired profile. However, this isn’t a s...

When I was doing my MSc Quantitative Finance, I got bored extremely quickly.
Therefore I decided to look around during my studies, and started a full time job as
quant. It was easy to combine.

During my studies, I noticed half if not more were all wanting to get into investment
banking. Many of the students I knew got in through the IBC in the Netherlands, or
banks like Goldman and JP Morgan literally visiting the campus who nearly begged for
people to hand in their CVs after a guest lecture.

I couldn't be fuzzed. Investment Banking? Fuck that.

So I was happily working as a quant, until a peri...
