Research Proposal
When over viewing what was being asked of us, I knew exactly what I wanted to
research. Over the past year, there has been a lot of talk about the vaping epidemic. Being in a
high school that drug tests for nicotine, I wonder why they deem it such a problem that they feel
the need to drug test us on it. I know about juuls, vapes, and standard e-cigarettes. Throughout
my high school, I am starting to notice that people are starting to become dependent on a “nic
buzz”.
Personally, I never thought that nicotine was addictive. I thought people juuled for the
fun of it. I am researching which form of cigarette is more harmful to people’s bodies because I
am truly interested to see what the results are. I believe that because company’s are making
nicotine more enjoyable rather than having the classical menthol taste, young adults and
teenagers are doing it more often than they would smoke a cigarette. I know several people who
partake in e-cigarettes, juuls, and other vaping methods as an alternative of smoking cigarettes. I
start to wonder if the alternative methods are becoming more harmful and that is what I hope to
find out.

in the center of all the new trends of smoking. When juuling first became big, I did not think
anything of it at all. I just thought it was something new on the market that every high schooler
wanted to get their hands on for about two weeks and then it would fade out. As time went on, I
noticed this was not a phase. It spread more than it reduced. I still felt like it was not a big deal
until the following year, we heard that we would be getting drug tested for the chemical that
contains nicotine. Then, I knew this was not a phase. I already know that Nicotine was supposed
to be an alternative to smoking for older adults. Although that was the intention, and it may have
helped with that statement, I also know that it has been marketed to the wrong crowd. I believe

information to make a clear decision. First, I am going to look at the history of both vapes and
cigarettes. Then, I will start to look at certain statistics from scholarly articles. Out of this
research paper, I am hoping to learn the effects of vapes to young lungs. I also want to learn
which one is more harmful to the body. My research question is, are vapes and e-cigs more
harmful to our body than cigarettes. Another research question I am going to go off of is if the
