ABSTRACT
Air pollution is the major growing threat to the modern era, which is causing ill effects to
both human beings as well as environment. So it is important to take strict actions againt
it . The main contributer to the air pollution are the growing no. of vehicals on the on the
roads which are releasing hazardous gases like Carbon Monoxide (CO), Oxides of
Nitrogen (NOx), Unburnt Hydrocarbons (UBHC) & Lead (Pb), etc.

A study showed the every individual person breaths approximately 22000 times a day,
inhaling about 15 to 22 kg of air daily. Polluted air causes physical ill effect decides
undesirable aestheticand physiological effects. Automobiles are not the only sources of
air pollution, other sources such as electric power generating stations, industrial and
domestic fuel consumption, refuse burning, industrial processing etc. also contribute
heavily to contamination of our environment so it is imperative that serious attempts
should be made to conserve of our environment from degradation.
An aqua silencer is a step forward in saving the environment from degradation by the ill
effects of air pollution. An aqua silencer is a concept which is designed to replace
conventional single unit engine silencers with a whole new device which is highly
efficient in performing its work. It is made to deal with the control of overall emissions
and undesirable sound at the engine exhaust of the vehicle.

The intensity or loudness of Sound produced due to working of an IC Engine can be

reduced by using water, as sound produce in water is less audible than produced in open
air. This is mainly because of the small sprockets of water molecules which are formed
around the packets of air or bubbles produced due to the emission of the gases in water
tank of aqua silencer which lowers its amplitude, thus lowers the sound level. Exhaust
emissions are controlled by applying a layer of activated charcoal on a perforated tube.
Activated charcoal is highly porous and possesses free extra valances and has good
absorption properties. So it absorbs the gases from the engine and releases much less
portion to the atmosphere. The level of the sound and smoke coming out of the aqua
silencer is considerably less than conventional silencer. Therefore serious attempts
should be made to conserve the earth’s environment from degradation.

As the noise and smoke level is considerably less compared to conventional silencer, it is
cheaper and no need of catalytic converter with easy to installation procedure the Aqua
silencers are having powerful reasons to replace the conventional silencers in future
automobiles and industrial sector.
