Project: A Proposed 5-Storey Dormitory

General Specifications: A Steel Structure with a Covered Roof Deck above Floor 5
Location: Davao City, Philippines
Date: March 11, 2017

I. PROJECT DESCRIPTION:

A. Architectural
This building is called "Dormnasia". Literally speaking Dormnasia is somewhat a "slang"

term for "Dorm ni siya. With its behind-curtain punch line, "Dili ni siya hotel, Dorm ni siya". It

would like to promote a stylish at budget-rate-kind standard of living, measured in terms of our

clean, cost-effective bedroom unit structures, well-maintained facilities and an open-view space

along the busy high way of McArthur. At the same time as what the prospective owners of this

establishment wants to achieve, having dormers as the main priority, Dormnasia would like to

have a long-lasting innovative impression that would make them feel like they're living in a

stylish and cozy hotel- like bedrooms in a very economical way.

Also, Dormnasia offers commercial rents. In line with the dormitel-kind of business

concept, commercial rents are also located at the ground floor of the said building premise.

Dormnasia's commercial spaces would like to give way to different businesses to expand and

branch out their names and brands in the vicinity of Sandawa highway. These commercial spaces

would also help the dorm-room tenants, complimenting their needs and wants as they live and

take their journey in Dormnasia.

B. Structural
Challenged to today’s engineering development, the proposed 5-Storey
Dormitory will be constructed out of steel material throughout the entire floors.
Reinforced concrete will of course, be used in the structure’s foundation and slab layout.
Roof deck is still present but it is to be covered with roof.

VI. LOAD COMPUTATIONS:

(As Per Load Cases Details Specifications)
(from National Structural Code of the Philippines 2010, 6th Edition)
A. SEISMIC ELF X-DIRECTION
A.1 UBC LOAD X 1
B. SEISMIC ELF Z-DIRECTION
B.1 UBC LOAD Z 1
C. DEAD LOADS
C.1 Floor Load = Load under Gypsum Board (per mm thickness), Mechanical
Duct Allowance, Suspended Metal Lath & Gypsum Plaster, Metal
Deck (Gage 20), 150 mm thick concrete slab and Ceramic Tile,
20mm, on 25mm mortar bed
= 0.008 kPa + 0.2 kPa + 0.48 kPa + 0.12 kPa + 3.54 kPa +
1.10 kPa
Total Floor Load = 5.448 kPa

C.2 Wall Load (Under Member Load)

For every 4 inch CHB with plastered finish both face at 3 meter
high = 9.5 kN/m
Wall Load = 9.183 kN/m at 2.9 meters high (By Ratio and Proportion)
Total Wall Load = 9.183 kN/m

C.3 Roof Load = Load under Corrugated G.I. Sheet and Urethane foam with
skin insulation
= [(10 kg/m3) x (9.81m/s2) x (10 mm thickness)] + [0.0009 kPa]
= {[0.000981 + 0.0009] x 0.60 spacing}
Total Roof Load = 0.0011286 kN/m
