Khilafat movement being an Islamic political protest led by Indian Muslims for protection of the

ottoman empire after the world-war 1

the treaties which came after ww1 were the main problems for the Muslim community as armistice
of mudros claimed the defeat of the ottomon empire and treaty of Versailles and severs also
contributed in the fall of ottoman empire as serves imposed partitioning of ottoman.

the movement was started by the Turks as a call for help but later as they saw a shift in their political
position they themselves abolished the sultan and the caliphate.

In India it was a helping movement in Indian independence

it was a religious movement for Indians but also the demands of Muslims in were also of reservation
in jobs and their interests' safety

it has had its influence on Indian and Pakistani politics

its background the loss of Germany in ww1 and the treaties which followed: mudros, Versailles and
severs

it was the treaty of mudros which led to the outbreak of anger from the Muslim community and
prominent people like maulana abdul kalam, maulana muhammad ali johar, maulana shoukat ali to
reacted against the govt.

the uniqueness of this movement was that even though it was a religious movement even the Hindu
favoured and supported the Muslims but this movt.is also the reason to give base to the separation
of the country

all India khilafat committee was formed in 1919 in Bombay its 1st conference was held in Delhi
arranged by the leaders of congress like Gandhi and Nehru

the community was told to not to celebrate any British, to boycott their goods

later the commencement of non cooperation most. was also helping to the khilafat movt.

brothers muhammad ali jauhar and shaukat ali jauhar

demands of khilafat movt. were the Turkish empire should remain in power of the holy place and
the caliphate to be retained and the holy places to be under suzerainty of khalifa

rowlett act gave un supervised power to the british to persecute any india without fair trail like
lettres de cachet in france

protest of this movt. was the jallianwala incident in april the jallianwala bagh incident happened
michaelo' dwyer fired upon innocent citizens and killed almost 1500 of them

and later said if he would not have fired on them and tried to dispere the crowd without firing they

Hijrat Movement

maulana abdul kalam azad, abdul firangi, muhammad ali etc. issued a fatwa asking muslim to leave
india and influence by the leaders the muslims left for kabul and afganistan but while leaving the
country they sold their property in dirt cheap prices and they migrated to kabul afganistan and the
sudden explosion in migration led to afganistan to close its doors for indian muslims now those who
had no property and little money who left india were doomed.

end of the khilafat movt.

was mainly when the turks got sustainable political position but some other reasons were also there
like the mopala revolt (Hindu landlord's brutal treatment)

the termination of non-cooperation movt. as their boycott in khilafat movt. was only the muslims
but non-cooperation was all the indians irrespective of their religion or one could simply say a bigger
scale which helped to put more pressure than the actual khilafat movt.

turkey developments kamal ataturk exiled abdul majeed a caliph and abolished the institution of
khalifa and all this led to the end of the khilafat movt. in India
