The restaurant is where people pay to sit and eat meals that are cooked and served on the
premises. They are an important factor in the choice of a destination for some tourists. We
have observed that there is an increasing number of tourists in Dumaguete City and we like to

The study focuses on The Impact of the Increasing Number of Tourists to the Restaurant
Business in Dumaguete City. Our topic directly or obviously tells us the purpose of this
research and it is to find out whether it favors them or not. Still, we continue to find out
more about this. The tourists play a significant role in any restaurant business since they

The success of restaurants is closely tied to travel and tourism. Across all dining segments,
about one in every four dollars spent at restaurants comes as a direct result of travel and

tradition , although this implies a constant need for innovation in products and services to
provide greater value and thus achieve greater competitiveness in a given location in relation
to other destinations . Therefore, local and regional food could give added value to the
destination and contribute in this way to the competitiveness of the geographic area , and, in
this sense, many researchers highlight that each country/region/city should promote food as a
central attraction to tourists as dining out and trying national and local cuisines are pleasant
activities for most tourists . In fact, gastronomy involves a transfer of knowledge and
information about the people, culture, traditions and identity of the visited place.
From the public perspective food assumes a secondary and minor role in tourism industry

I. Research Method
In our research study, we used the Quantitative Method because we collected our data through
our survey questionnaires. We used two forms for our question, the checklist format and
open-ended format. The checklist format because our questionnaires are already in a
structured form. The open-ended format for us to understand better the situation and reasons
In our research study we used non-probability sampling because we are focusing on the
restaurant establishments as our target respondents. We used one of the four kind of the non-
probability sampling which is the purposive or the judgment sampling. We selected the
restaurants who are fit in the purpose of our study. Among the restaurants here in Dumaguete
City we selected 15 restaurant establishments that gave us the data we need for our research
study.

The instrument we used to get the data we need is through the survey questionnaire. The
questionnaire we had provided consisted of 13 questions that would help us answer our

We formulated our questions basing on our topic on what are the impacts of the increasing
number of tourists bring about to the restaurant establishments. We then randomly distributed
the survey questionnaires to fifteen (15) restaurants in Dumaguete City. We asked a little of
their time to answer our questionnaire but we also prepared ourselves from rejection because
of their busy schedules. Despite the rejection, 15 kind restaurants accommodated us. We then
waited for at least a day for them to answer. After collecting the necessary data, the
researchers tallied and tabulated the data. The information gathered will be used to get the

I. Conclusion
The purpose of our study is to know what are the impacts of the growing number of tourists in
Dumaguete City to the restaurant establishments, if it really have affected them from the past
few years. Through our results we have found out that tourists really had an impact to
Dumaguete City’s restaurant establishments. It revealed that the tourists have some positive
impacts to them. One of it are the boost of sales of their restaurants. It also helps them
promote their restaurants internationally. With the positive feedbacks from the tourists it
simply says that the service and product of the restaurants here in Dumaguete can compete to
other businesses globally. The restaurants adapted ways to cater the growing numbers of
tourists. Like for the foreign tourists the restaurant staffs were trained well and knows how to
converse with them by knowing other foreign languages since communication is one of the
most important attribute to know in catering tourists. They also have provided a much bigger
space for the tourists. They provided some amenities/facilities to attract tourists. Restaurants
here in Dumaguete also offers different types of cuisines like American, European, Mexican,

continually strive to be better for them to cater the locals and tourists. They should always
prioritize the customers, tourists or not. Foods, Facilities, Services & etc. should always be a
