Street Politics

Street politics is where people gather on the streets and protests for something. In general
view street protests look fine and inspirational but in our culture it’s the complete opposite
of that. Street politics in our country means “Hartal”. And it always come with violence and
strikes. Hartal is not good for a country. It hampers the general life as well as the economy
of the country. But in past the oppositional party always protest with violence. That’s the
main problem of not having a strong or in other words technically sound oppositional party.
In history of Bangladesh’s street politics innocent people always died in the violence. In the
Wikipedia there is a dedicated page for the list of Hartal in Bangladesh! From the source we
can see in the year 1996-2001 in total 215 days was called strike all the day long.

Possible Reasons behind the failure of not having any strong oppositional party
Mismanagement of political parties in the root level in one of the main reason of the
problem. No one actually knows about the benefits of having a strong oppositional party.
Corruption and abusing of the power is another reason behind it. People use their power to
dominate others. That’s why new people get afraid to enter in the politics. The root level
politics then remain in a certain group of people.
Politicians focus on showing appearance than actual work. The like to have the attention of
the leaders by not doing the actual work, rather than by lobbing and other unethical
process. Nepotistic Behaviors of the politicians are also responsible. Accepting the defeat is
more likely don’t exist in the Bangladesh’s political culture. Which leads the people doubt
about the government and also people gets confused whether the election was legit or not.
Finally, the mentality to destroy opposition by any means necessary demotivates the new
people who wants to come into the politics.

Possible Solutions
The problem is in the root. So, reviewing the structures of political parties once again can be
a solution. Developing the mentality to work with each other is also very important for the
Democracy of Bangladesh. The political parties need to stop the unnecessary blaming game.
It can be done by respecting the decisions of party leader of the other parties too.
The Hartals should be stopped and discussion between the parties should be encouraged.
Our politics have become too much corporate as most of our politicians are from business
background. New faces and public figures should come into the politics to create more
versatility in the political ground.
Bangladesh’s upcoming election and the outcomes

The upcoming election on 30th December will play a big part in the Bangladesh’s future as
any election does. But there are special reasons why it is very important election of
Bangladesh. The past 10 years one party rules the nation without having a strong
oppositional party. If it continues then it won’t be very good for our country as well as for
the people of Bangladesh.
It’s nice to see that political parties are realizing that good people are needed in the politics.
A few well known face came to the politics in this election which a good move indeed for
the future politics of Bangladesh. It will create a balancedversatility in the political field.
