DESIGN DATA
grade of Concrete M-25
Design of Quality Control Good.
Slump : 50- 75 mm
TEST DATA FOR MATERIALS :
The following materials are used in trial mixes .
Type of Cement : - PSC Cement as per IS 17001 (BIRLA Samrat)
i) Specific Gravity of cement 2.86
ii) Specific Gravity of Coarse Aggregate 2.88
iii) Fine Aggregate 2.605
iv) Nominal maximum size of aggregate — 20 mm
v) Degree of quality control available at site — As per IS:456
vi) Maximum water content = 186 Kg (for Nominal maximum size of aggregate — 20 mm)
vii) Estimated water content = 186+ (3/100) x 186 = 191.6 kg /m 3 Him worth constant for
5% risk factor is 1.65. In this case standard deviation is taken from IS:456 against M 25 is
4.0.
ftarget = fck + 1.65 x S = 25 + 1.65 x 4.0 = 31.6 N/mm2
Where fck = characteristic compressive strength
T= 165 from IS 10262- 2009) S = standard deviation in N/mm2 = 4 form (as per table -1 of IS
10262- 2009) Selection of water / cement ratio:-
From Table 5 of IS 456, (page no 20) Maximum water-cement ratio for Mild exposure
condition =0.50 Based on experience, adopt water-cement ratio as 0.45.
0.45<0.50, hence OK.

Selection of Water Content

From Table 2 of IS 10262- 2009,Maximum water content = 186 Kg (for Nominal maximum size of
aggregate — 20 mm) Based on the trails adopt water content =178.00 liters
Hence the arrived water content =191.58x 0.92= 177.75 Liters
Selection of Cement Content

1
Water-cement ratio = 0.45 Corrected water content = 191.6 kg /m3 Cement content = 177.75/
0.45= 395 Kg/m3
From Table 5 of IS 456, Minimum cement Content for mild exposure condition = 300 kg/m3 ,395
kg/m3 > 300 kg/m3, hence, OK.
Estimation of Coarse Aggregate proportion:-
From Table 3 of IS 10262- 2009, For Nominal maximum size of aggregate = 20 mm, Zone of fine
aggregate = Zone III And For w/c =0.45 Volume of coarse aggregate per unit volume of total
aggregate = 0.64
Note 1: For every ±0.45 change in w/c, the coarse aggregate proportion is to be changed by 0.01. If
the w/c is less than 0.45 (standard value), volume of coarse aggregate is required to be increased to
reduce the fine aggregate content. If the w/c is more than 0.45= {0.64+0.01}=0.65 volume of coarse
aggregate is to be reduced to increase the fine aggregate content. If coarse aggregate is not angular,
volume of coarse aggregate may be required to be increased suitably, based on experience.
Note 2: For pump able concrete or congested reinforcement the coarse aggregate proportion may
be reduced up to 10%. Volume of coarse aggregate per unit volume of total aggregate = 0.64 x 90% =
0.576Volume of fine aggregate = 1 – 0.576 = 0.424
Estimation of the mix ingredients
a) Volume of concrete = 1 m3
b) Volume of cement = (Mass of cement / Specific gravity of cement) x (1/100) = (395/2.884) x
(1/1000) = 0.13696 m3
c) Volume of water = (Mass of water / Specific gravity of water) x (1/1000) = (177.75/1) x (1/1000) =
0.17775 m3
d) Volume of total aggregates = a – (b + c ) = 1 – (0.13696 + 0. 17775) = 0.68529 m3
e) Mass of coarse aggregates = d x Volume of coarse aggregate x Specific Gravity of Fine Aggregate
x1000 =0.68529x 0.65 x 2.605 x 1000 = 1160.36 kg/m3
20 mm stone chips =60% = 696.21Kg. 12 mm stone chips =40% = 464.41Kg.
f) Mass of coarse aggregates(stone chips ) = Mass of coarse aggregates/ x Specific Gravity x 1/1000
=1160.36/2.605x 1/1000= 0.445435
g) Mass of Fine aggregates(Sand ) =d x Volume of Fine aggregates x Specific Gravity of Fine
aggregates x1000 =0.68529x 0.35x2.605 x 1000= 624.41kg.
Concrete Mix proportions for Trial Mix 1
Cement = 395 kg/m3 , Water = 177.75 kg/m3, Fine aggregates(Sand ) = 624.41 kg/m3, Coarse
aggregate(stone chips ) = 1160.36 kg/m3
Cement: Fine aggregates : Coarse aggregate : Water = 1 : 1.5807 : 2.9376 :0.45

To,
The Assistant Engineer,
Bankura Medical College sub-Division,
Bankura.

Name of work: Construction of a New Administrative cum Academic Building in the Hostel
Complex of the Institute of Pharmacy at Haritaki Bagan in the district of Bankura.

Ref. Your letter no.575 dated 05/07/2013.

Dear Sir,
We would like to draw your kind attention that we are very much surprise to
receipt the above said letter from your end, where you mentioned you have handed over
the foundation drawing on dated 28/05/13 and we have yet not started the work.

Sir, we once again draw your attention that the following facts, which we have
already, explain verbally.
i) We have received the lay-out drawing on dated 13/04/13 and just after that we
make an arrangement for excavation of earth after making the layout on dated
20/04/13 and we have completed the earth cutting on dated 07/05/13 in all
respect.
ii) We have received an advance copy of footing/foundation drawing on dated
13/05/13 and finally part foundation drawing received on dated 06/06/13, where
there are minor difference between advance copy & final drawing and there are
major differences between layout drawings & approved footing drawing. But
work could not be started due to non availability of rest final footing drawing. In
the position of expansion joints combined beam may be provided at footing
stage. So without the rest footing drawings, work could not be started. If you
sure, please confirm us in writing to proceed the work on the basis of that
drawing.
During marking layout, we are instructed to excavate earth 1.50mtr.depth from lowest
G.L. The whole work was not completed at a time and you have noted out the points
after complete the whole work on dated 03/06/13, where the said work were completed
on 07/05/13.
We have already collected the required materials at site to start the work like sand,
stone chips, steel etc. but work could not start due to non-availability of required
drawings.

4
So we, therefore, request in your good-self please look in to the matter and supply the
required drawings at an earliest and not to blame others to cover-up your-self.
Thanking you,
Yours faithfully,

For, INDRAJIT JHA
