Interview scenario questions

Scenario 1
***Stress interview
Interviewer- Prove to me that you're smart.
Neal- Ma’am, why should I respond to a dumb question like that? (And he wrote something on a paper, folded it
and kept it on the table )
Interviewer- Is that so? Get the hell out of this room.
Neal- Why should I? Your job is to take my interview.
Interviewer- We don’t have any job for you.
Neal- Why?
Interviewer- You got a bad attitude. Now, get out.
Neal- I don’t want to see your ugly face also. Just go on and do your job. Take the interview. Ask me something
else. I will answer.
Interviewer- (Angry and loud)- Get the hell out. [Called for the security].
Neal- Are you angry? No. you are not. If you are, then go ahead and throw the glass of cold water on me. Why are
you calling the security? Are you helpless or something?
I know you can’t do that. You are a woman and you are emotional who needs help from a man in every second.
Interviewer- Went on and threw the glass of cold water on Neal’s face.
[Security came in]
Neal- Ma’am, this how I make people work. Please open the folded paper.
[It was written “I’m too smart. I can make you throw a glass of cold water on me. You will break the code of
conduct for me as an interviewer”.]
Scenario 2
Interviewer- Prove to me that you are honest?
Neal- Do you only hire honest candidates?
Interviewer- Yes! Now answer the question or I will take it as a No.
Neal- I am not honest.
Interviewer- What?
Neal- Yes! You heard it right.
Interviewer- Don’t you want the job?
Neal- I don’t want to get selected by lying to you.
Interviewer- But, you could have lied to get the job. Why did you tell the truth?
Neal- I just honestly said “I am not honest”.
Interviewer- I didn’t get it.
Neal- I thought “I must answer the question honestly” and I did.
Interviewer- But why did you show your honesty to me?
Neal- I am not honest to everyone, every time. But I will remain honest to you if you hire me. I have just started
doing that while I answered your question honestly.

Scenario 3
Interviewer- Are you serious for the job?
Neal- No, I’m not.
Interviewer- Then why are you here?
Neal- Just passing time.
Interviewer- I didn’t get it.
Neal- There are 110 candidates. You will select only 1. Then what are others doing here? Aren’t they just wasting
time?
Interviewer- How would you know, I won’t select you?
Neal- Ma’am, because you asked me if I am serious about this job or not. We all are serious, that’s why we are
here even after knowing the probability is 1/100.
And personally, I don’t prefer to waste time.

Interviewer- How many steps are there in the stair?

Neal- I didn't count.
Interviewer- Your observation power just sucks.
Neal- It’s not my job to count stairs.
2

Interviewer- You should.

Neal- Why?
Interviewer- We need a person who can have a keen look for small things.
Neal- I don’t observe useless things. I concentrate on important things. .

Interviewer- Will you work on holidays?

Neal- No.
Interviewer- Why not?
Neal- Will you pay extra?
Interviewer- No.
Neal- You won’t pay me for that extra work.
Interview- Don’t you want this job?
Neal- Yes! I want it more than anyone else. But I believe in quality rather than quantity.

Interviewer- Can you sell me this cup of coffee?

Neal- Do you drink coffee?
Interviewer- No.
Neal- I can’t. Without any need, there can’t be a sale.

Interviewer- What if, I will reject you?

Neal- Your company will lose a good potential employee.
Interviewer- Aren’t you scared of rejection?
Neal- No, I don’t.
Interviewer- Why?
Neal- I must focus on getting things done rather than getting scared of rejections.

Scenario 4
Interviewer- How much salary do you expect?
Neal- Zero.
Interviewer- Why?
Neal- Ma’am, I want you to select me for my skills not for the salary I want. I will tell it after the selection.
Interviewer- When can you join?
Neal- Today if my current employer allows.

Interviewer- Sell me your pen.

Neal- You already have a pen. When there is no need, there can’t be a sale.

Interviewer- What is your strength?

Neal- I turn every weakness to a strength and every problem to an opportunity.

Interviewer- What is your leadership style?

Neal- I don’t push. I pull.
Interviewer- Why?
Neal- As per physics, it’s easy to pull.

Interviewer- Why are you leaving your current company?

Neal- I’m working with good people. Now, I want to work with great people.

Interviewer- What is your biggest achievement?

Neal- I have many achievements. But I’m not satisfied. I think the biggest is yet to come.

Interviewer- Can you work in a stressed environment?

Neal- No. But I will definitely try to reduce the stress of your organisation. So, everyone can work in peace.

Scenario 5
[Here is what happened when a candidate asked for a higher salary]
Interviewer- How much salary do you want?
Neal- 50 thousands.
Interviewer- That’s 20 thousands higher than our salary bracket.
Neal- Can’t I have that?
Interviewer- But, why should we give you a higher salary?
[This is a green signal because the interviewer didn’t say no.]
Neal- Because I am efficient. I got all the qualifications and experiences as needed for this position.
Interviewer- Your offer is way beyond the industry standard.
Neal- Ma’am, your company is better than other companies in the industry. So, your employees should get paid
more than the industry standard.
Interviewer- The other candidates said yes for a 30 thousand salary.
Neal- I am better than everyone. You know it. I am also a bit more than average, so need more salary.
Interviewer- That’s okay but why do you want a higher salary?
Neal- I want to forget about money while working for your company. 50 thousand is something that will fulfill my
needs. So, I won’t be looking for a job change as you said it’s way above than industry standard. I just want to
concentrate on my work and stick to your company as a loyal employee.
***Selected***
P.S. A higher salary negotiation will never make you lose a job. It might help you get selected.
And it depends on the way you negotiate without irritating the interviewer.
If the company finds potential within you, they will hire you for any cost. Because a loyal and efficient employee is
hard to find.
Scenario 6
Interviewer- Tell me something about yourself.
Neal- I got all the qualifications, experiences. Will you hire me?
Interviewer- Okay, tell me about your qualifications and experiences. After that we will decide.
[Neal tells everything about himself.]
Interviewer- How much salary do you want?
[This is the first green flag. When an interviewer is interested in a candidate, she goes for the salary negotiation.]
Neal- Ma’am, hire me first. See my potential. Then we will negotiate the salary.
Interviewer- What if we won’t give you salary you have in mind?
Neal- I’m confident, you will give me a better salary after you see my potential.
[Interviewer Smiles …This is the second green flag. People hire people they like.]
Interviewer- Now, tell me when can you join if you get selected?
[Biggest green flag. You almost get selected.]
Neal- I can join right now.
***Selected***
Don’t ruin it by saying something like:
I don’t know.
Might be after few days.
I have some family issues, it might take sometime.
From the next month.
Let me ask my current boss.
Neal would say:
You tell me a date, I will join.
Right now. I am so excited to join.
I want to join from tomorrow. What would you say Ma’am?
Let’s go to work.
Close your job deal first. Don’t get confused. Don’t ruin the green flags. Employers want candidates who can
start from today.
Scenario 7
Interviewer- Your CV says a lot. Are you the man in the CV or you just faked it?
Neal- No. I’m not the man. I faked it.
Interviewer- Why?
Neal- Ma’am, I wanted you to select my CV and give me an opportunity to show my skills in front of you.
Interviewer- What sort of skills?
4

Neal- Ma’am, I just wanted to show my marketing skill. You selected my CV because I marketed it well. Am I not
a good marketer?
Interviewer- Sorry, we don’t allow fake people in our organisation. And fake marketing doesn’t retain customers.
You can go now.
Neal- Wait! How do you know I faked it?
Interviewer- You just told me.
Neal- If you think I’m fake, then why are you believing me right now?
Interviewer- Sounds interesting. Please sit down.
Neal- Thank you Ma’am. First I marketed my CV and now, I just showed you how to retain a customer in a worst
situation.

Scenario 8
***Sell this bottle of alcohol followed by the shortest salary negotiation***
Interviewer- Can you sell this bottle of alcohol thrice the price?
Neal- Do you drink?
Interviewer- No, I don’t.
Neal- Then why don’t you taste it today?
Interviewer- Alcohol is bad for health.
Neal- Who told that? Science has proven alcohol can lengthen your life. It can even keep you warm in this cold.
Interviewer- I don’t think so. Prove me wrong. I will select you right now..!
Neal- Moderate alcohol consumption works as medicine.
Interviewer- People are dying due to alcohol.
Neal- People are dying because of “Drink and drive”. Not because of alcohol. I’m the living proof of that.
Interviewer- Okay!
Neal- It also fight gallstone and lowers the chance of diabetes. One bottle can’t make you dead. You must try once
in a life time.
Interviewer- Okay. How much?
Neal- 6000.
Interviewer- What? You are just telling double the normal price.
Neal- We have made this specially for the people who drinks for the first time. You will remain stable after
drinking.
Interviewer- Still, if something happens to me?
Neal- We have an 50 lakh insurance plan for you just for 3000 more.
Interviewer- [Laughs] Great job. You are the right candidate for our sales team.
How much salary do you expect?
Neal- Nothing now. I want you to taste me like that bottle of alcohol. After a month we will decide.
[Neal’s priority is to get selected first. Not the salary.]
If I perform, give me the best salary. If I don’t, you can fire me.
[Showed confidence as Neal already knows no body fires their employee after 1 month of training. Trained
employees are assets.]

Scenario 9
Interviewer- Describe yourself.
Neal- It’s all in my CV.
Interviewer- Tell me something which is not in your CV.
Neal- I am a greedy person.
Interviewer- Then, you are here for just salary. Right?
Neal- Yes!
Interviewer- What if, our company goes through a crisis and we can’t provide salary to our employees for a month?
Will you leave our company during the crisis?
Neal- You want me to work for you for free? And you won’t give salary to your employees? Then, why should
someone work for you?
Interviewer- Just answer my question. Will you leave the organisation or not during a crisis?
Neal- It depends.
Interviewer- Are you saying No? Then, why should we hire such a person like you?
Neal- I didn’t say no.
Interviewer- Then what did that mean?
5

Neal- As I said I’m greedy. So, it depends.

Interviewer- Explain..!
Neal- Because it is easy to keep a greedy person motivated.
Interviewer- How?
Neal- A normal employee will work to save his job but get demotivated when he has to work for free during the
crisis.
But…
I will take advantage of the crisis and walk to you and say “Sir, I am ready to put extra hours during this crisis
for free so we can get out of this. In exchange of that, I need a better salary when the crisis is over.”

Scenario 10
Interviewer- Rate me out of 10?
Neal- Ma'am, I give you ZERO out of 10.
Interviewer- Why is that? What not 10?
Neal- You are good. Your presentation skills are great. You ask great questions. But one thing is there.
Interviewer- What is that?
Neal- Results matter. As far as I’m concerned, I’m the best candidate. If you will select me, you will get 10.
Interviewer- Is that so?
Neal- Yes. For me result matters whatever you do. It doesn’t matter how good you are, it matters how much is your
output. This is the way I work. I believe in output. If you are giving your 100% and output is zero, and someone is
giving his 50% but his output is more than zero, then who is a better performer?
Interviewer- Absolutely right.
***Selected***
Scenario 11
Interviewer- What is your desired salary?
Neal- How much will you pay? It is written 30K per month in the advertisement.
Interviewer- We will pay 30K.
Neal- Then, why are you asking? My desires are higher than the salary you will pay me.
Interviewer- How much you want?
Neal- Ma’am, I want 40K per month.
Interviewer- Why?
Neal- Today, I’m a fresher. Let’s say, you will pay me 30K salary per month. After 3 months, my training will be
over. I will be more efficient and better than today I’m. Then after 6 months, I will have more experience than
today. I will be better than better.
Then, will you pay more?
Interviewer- No.
Neal- Why not? After 9 months my value will be 50K per month. I’m just asking for 40.
Interviewer- But, what about today? You deserve 20K. Still we are going to provide 30.
Neal- That’s why I’m not asking for 50. I want just 40. I will get better everyday.
Interviewer- So, let’s find a way between 50 and 20. That is 35K.
Neal- [Smiled] Done!
***Got the offer***
Scenario 12
Interviewer- Go ahead and put your signature on the blank paper?
Neal- Why?
Interviewer- Do you want this job or not? If you want, you have to do it.
Neal- If I sign it, you will select me. Right?
Interviewer- Right.
[Neal went ahead and signed it]
Interviewer- You are rejected.
Neal- Why?
Interviewer- You just signed a blank paper given by an unknown person.
Neal- You just told me to do that.
Interviewer- We don’t want to take a risk of hiring you. You might put our company in danger by signing a blank
paper given by any outsider. You can be manipulated easily. How can we trust you? We want to hire a smart
person.
Neal- [Laughs]
6

Interviewer- Why are you laughing? What happened? Do you think it’s a joke?
Neal- I signed it because I wanted to know the real intention of the outsider (You). It’s always good to know your
enemy before you attack.
Interviewer- But I have a blank paper signed by you. I can take advantage of it.
Neal- This is not my registered sign. I’m a lefty. I just signed the paper with my right hand.
Interviewer- Why didn’t you sign it in the first place. You would have done it. Why did you do a bit drama asking
questions?
Neal- I wanted to keep things natural to make you believe that I was signing for real.

Scenario 13
Interviewer- Why should I hire you?
Neal- Don’t you want?
Interviewer- No.
Neal- Why not?
Interviewer- Out of 30 candidates, 29 are more experienced than you.
Neal- Ma’am, what about the remaining one?
Interviewer- C’mon! That’s you.
Neal- Then, why did you call me for the interview? Now, why are you asking me this question if you don’t want to
hire?
Interviewer- Okay, you can go now. We don’t waste your time any more.
Neal- Okay, I will leave. But before that can I have a minute?
Interviewer- Yes.
Neal- Have you ever heard of “All out mosquito repellent”?
Interviewer- Yes.
Neal- Ma’am, I had been using All out for five years. Still, I was having mosquito bites every night. It was a kind
of hell for me. Suddenly, I replaced the liquid with another brand which was less expensive. And the mosquitos
went away.
Interviewer- I didn’t get it.
Neal- The other 29 experienced salesmen will make the sales process too much predictable with their conventional
sales method. Your clients might buy or might not. But I can be trained to develop a new sales method.
Interviewer- That’s okay! But we are not in a position to take a risk. Our company is already in loss.
Neal- That’s what I’m talking about. Your current salespersons are not able to sell these days with their
conventional method. How many salespersons you have?
Interviewer- 300.
Neal- Your company is already in loss. If I won’t perform, that will affect your sales 0.33%.
Will it matter? But, if I will be able to sell with a new method, that will be a revolution. You have five vacancies.
You can hire me and four of the other experienced person.
Interviewer- Okay. I will hire you. But, what if you won’t perform?
Neal- I just sold you my words. That’s how I will sell your products too.

selling 100K products worth 10 million.
Interviewer- Okay. Why should I hire you?
Neal- You saw my growth. Someday, I will sell 100 million products for your company worth 1 Billion.

Okay, that was Neal. The interviewer had to ask several questions to find out who Neal really is? If he didn’t ask
those questions? If he didn’t have enough time?
Neal would have said this in 30 seconds.
Hi myself Neal. I got an MBA marketing from a reputed institute. I didn’t do it by cutting corners but I did it by
learning the sales skill for the best professionals in the industry.
Now, I’m working as a salesperson in XYZ company. I sold 100K products worth 10 million last month and before
that I helped two startups to grow by putting my energies within the team.
Now, I want to work with a bigger company like yours where I can sell more products and can earn bigger
commissions.

What do interviewers expect?

Interviewers don’t care about, who you are, what you know, what are your qualifications, where are you from.
One thing, they care about is “How can you bring value to the organisation so the company can make more
money”.
I’m talking about money here because, every business cares about profit.
For example:
If you in sales- You have to directly generate revenue.
If you are in HR- You have to manage people so that they can work efficiently.
If you are in operations- You have to make the process smooth and easy so that productivity can be increased.
If you are sweeper- You have to make the floor so clean that people will love to walk on it. More people come in,
more money company will make.
If you are a flight attendant- More people would like to fly with a beautiful lady who can ensure safety and comfort
as the same time.

The expectations are

1. You should be certain about your skills. [Everybody wants to hire a person who is confident.]
2. Your qualifications must likely to add value to the company.
3. You must have same kind of experience that is required for the job profile.
4. You must be a team player. Company means, it’s a team.
5. You should have a X factor that will differentiate you from other candidates.
6. Most important - You must present yourself such a way that they will understand the above points about
yourself.

7 things that can make you stand out in interview.

 90% of people get nervous during the interview. A bit confidence will definitely make you stand out.
 Don’t cross your hands. Put your open hands on the table so the interviewer can see those. (It’s a
psychological trick)
 You should have at least 1 pair of good dress. You must look good in the interview. Put all your pocket
money to buy that pair if you are in college.
 Never use No or negative words. It makes the interviewer feel negative about you (Human psychology and
it works). Say yes every time. For example if the interviewer asks “Can you join us within 7 days?”.
Politely say “Yes! I can. But in our current company we have a 15 days notice period. I will request my
current boss. If it will be possible, I will definitely join within 7 days.” Always, start with positivity and
end with positivity.
 Show your 100% dedication to the company. Show them their problem is now your problem. And you will
definitely bring a solution to the table.
 Show them, you are 100% going to join their company if get selected.
 Last but not the least, make them laugh a bit and give your 100% attention to the person who ever asking
the questions.
 No one gets rejected with this much of positivity. Everybody wants positive people around them. So, be
100% sure about yourself that you are the best candidate and help the interviewers to select you.
Good Luck!

These are few questions asked in HR interview... The answers are really stunning and inspiring........ Thinking out of the
box...!

Question 1:

You are driving along in your car on a wild, stormy night, it's raining heavily, when suddenly you pass by a bus stop, and you
see three people waiting for a bus:

* An old lady who looks as if she is about to die.

* An old friend who once saved your life.

* The perfect partner you have been dreaming about.

9

Which one would you choose to offer a ride to, knowing very well that there could only be one passenger in your car?

This is a moral/ethical dilemma that was once actually used as part of a job application.

He simply answered:

"I would give the car keys to my Old friend and let him take the lady to the hospital. I would stay behind and wait for the bus
with the partner of my dreams."

Sometimes, we gain more if we are able to give up our stubborn thought limitations. Never forget to "Think Outside of the
Box."

(Answer: The question was "What is before you (U alphabet) Reply was "TEA" ( T alphabet)

Alphabet "T" was before Alphabet "U".

Think well before you make up your mind!" The boy thought for a while and said, "my choice is one really difficult question."

"Well, good luck to you, you have made your own choice! Now tell me this. "What comes first, Day or Night?"

The boy was jolted into reality as his admission depends on the correctness of his answer, but he thought for a while and said,
"It's the DAY sir!"

"How" the interviewer asked,

"Sorry sir, you promised me that you will not ask me a SECOND difficult question!"

Question 5:
In an IAS interview,

saying excuse me sir!!....he fell down on the floor and the papers are scattered on the floor..........!!!!
