Once y o u have entered the service mode the right monitor w i l l display a menu w h i c h list the options
for operational default selections and service related functions.
NOTE: The system default files are set at the time they leave the factory at IMS and should not be
changed until the operator has a chance to use the system. It is recommended to write down all
of the system default values before first operation by user as a reference.
The service mode allows a great deal of custom setting to the systems operations to meet the
needs of the operator/user, however it should be noted that miss adjustment will cause image
degradation and lead to poor image quality. Therefore please read the following information
and write down all the data on the screens after installation for future reference.

SYSTEM FILES:
Call IMS national service before attempting to make nay changes to the
system files or otherwise copy files to or from the system hard drives.
The system uses very highly advanced read/ write routines for files and images which
do not require the DOS operating system and therefore files and images are not visible
to normal DOS commands.
Therefore any attempts to view copy or otherwise perform tasks not authorized by IMS
will result in system failure and or damage to the system hard drives and void
warranty.
THE SYSTEM IS VERY SPECIFIC IN THE AREAS THAT CAN HAVE DOS FILES
AND WERE IT CAN NOT.
THE IMAGE SYSTEM FILES WILL BE OVER WHITEN IF YOU ATTEMPT TO COPY

The following information is listed i n order of the selection number on the main service menu.
N O T E : Only train Service Engineers who understand and are trained should attempt to use the
following information. Incorrect entry of data will cause system failure and or poor image
quality.
1) G A I N and OFFSET
The gain and offset functions of the image processor provide the necessary calibration to match the
analog to digital converter's range to the amplitude and level of the video input.
The Offset adjustment is used to set the A / D converter's lower range to the black level i n the video
signal. A n y signal below this level w i l l result i n all pixel values being converted to black until the
video signal rises above the offset value.
The G a i n is used to match the m a x i m u m signal amplitude (white level) to the A / D ' s m a x i m u m
conversion capacity (i.e. 10 bit = 1024 gray scale).
The following steps 1-15 must be performed on the I M S 2000 / 2760 Imaging System prior to adjusting
the G A I N / O F F S E T values.
WARNING
Exercise extreme caution when measuring on the VIP2000 and UPS2000 boards. Make sure power is off
before attaching meter and scopes to the board sets as permanent damage will occur if components are
inadvertently shorted. The subsequent shorting of one of the boards can be detected when boards are
inspected.
The following adjustments w i l l make sure the image system input and output video is calibrated properly.
1. T u r n off power to system and open image system to gain access to the image boards. See section 7.0 of the
IMS2760 service manual for location of boards. See also the section 8 for location of test points.

4. From the Service M e n u , select item # 3. wait then press # 0 u n i t l l M a s k Circle Disabled is selected.
6. Press the Escape K e y twice to return to normal operation mode and press the M O N / L - R key to transfer
the image to the right side monitor. The Step Wedge image should n o w appear on both monitors (left
and right).
7. Connect oscilloscope to the video output of the left monitor, leaving the 75 ohm termination switch
"on". A step wedge going u p on both sides of the oscilloscope w i l l be seen.
9. Connect oscilloscope to the video output of the right monitor, leaving the 75 ohm termination switch
"on". A step wedge going u p on both sides of the oscilloscope w i l l be seen.
WARNING
Exercise extreme caution when measuring on the VIP2000 and UPS2000 boards . Make sure power is off
before attaching meter and scopes to the board sets as permanent damage will occur if components are
inadvertently shorted.
Please refer to section 8.3 of the IS 2760 service manual for location of test points.
12. O n the VIP2000 board, connect D C voltmeter between W 6 (gnd) and W22 (DC gain).

2) LIVE NOISE REDUCTION
The system incorporates weighted frame averaging to help reduce noise i n the live and last image
hold. The system employs an averaging technique termed "exponential averaging". This type of
averaging w i l l reduce from 50 % to 87% of the noise i n the live video image depending o n the selected
value, i.e. 2,3,4,5,6,7,8 or 16 frames. Therefore the service software allows the service engineer to
select the value of noise reduction best suited for the customer as a default setting w h e n the system turns
on. The selection of the image noise reduction is accomplished by selecting " 2 " then Pressing E N T E R on
the monitor cart control keyboard.
The operator is allowed to select from the control keyboard L O W , M E D , H I G H noise reduction w h i c h
i n turn is a value set by the service engineer i n the service menu. The value for L O W , M E D , or H I G H can
be set to any value from 2 to 16 frames. The best results are given below for a new system.
LOW = 3 MED= 5 H I G H = 16 These values are set at the factory w h e n the system is shipped.
SETTING T H E N E W V A L U E :
Select the number from list on the screen b y pressing the corresponding number select function
L O W , M E D , H I G H . Then enter value for noise reduction by pressing the numerical keys for number
of video frames to be averaged, i.e. 2, 3,4,5, - 16 needed then press the E N T E R key to save the new value
for noise reduction.
N O T E : Selection 9 provides a base level of image noise reduction for system even if operator select no
N R reduction. T h i s base value s h o u l d be 2 to 3 frames but no less than 2. T h i s w i l l l i m i t a l l settings of
noise reduction N R , and L I H from going below the m i n i m u m set b y this selection.
NOTE: When all entries are complete press ENTER to save the screen and it's new values to digital
disk
L I H NOISE:
Refers to the function used a the end of a fluoroscopy w h e n the radiation h a n d / f o o t s w i t c h is
released and the processing system averages images to reduce noise i n the image to provide better
image quality.
The L A S T I M A G E H O L D feature of noise reduction allows the operator to select a different value
of noise reduction w h e n the D r . releases the fluoroscopic footswitch this type of noise reduction is called
a finite impulse response filter . The system averages image together w i t h a fixed pre-set number of
video image frames.
E X A M P L E : L I H set for four (4) image. The D R . releases the footswitch, C - A r m sends a signal to the
IMS2760 digital system to start the L I H mode. The image processor sets the value of image to the 4
images preselected then accumulates them i n the image buffers and applies the L I H algorithm to the
images i n the buffer. The results are then displayed on the process monitor and image system sends
signal to the C - A r m to stop the fluoroscopic radiation . The length of h o l d on of radiation is determined
by the number of images selected for last image hold rule of thumb is 8 frames of integration takes about
300 to 400ms.
