Summary:
Issue: VMAX 10K File Systems are shipping from the factory with the incorrect FA port flags settings. These settings must be corrected prior to
bringing the File components online.
Cause: This is due to a SymmWin issue where the FA port flags are set incorrectly when the IMPL.bin file is built from the ACE PTT (Pass To
Test) Sales Order XML file in the factory.
Change: VMAX 10K Block and File (VG50) configure and new install.
Resolution: OPT 443974 has been opened for this issue. A fix is expected in the new Enginuity 5876 release (due Q4 2014).
Workaround:
Until the fix is released the additional steps outlined below must be carried out when installing a 10K File System. The steps are run after
the "VMAX10K Set-Up Script" in the "Configure online operations" section of the Symmetrix Solve Desktop procedure (VMAX 10K 987
Installation Guide in the VMAX Family/DMX Hardware Documentation Viewer).
NOTE: An FSS may need to be consulted to correct the manufacturing BIN file FA port flag settings and save the updated BIN prior to
running the Online Configuration Change.
Instructions:
1. Take the IMPL.bin from the System.
2. In the Edit Directors tab set the Enable the Port Flags as per the "FA Port Flag Settings" table below for the FA Ports that are connected to the 10K
File Data Movers. Depending on the number of VMAX Engines and Data Movers the "FA to Data Mover Blade Fiber Channel connections" tables
below can be used to determine the correct ports to set the flags on.
3. Save the BIN file.
4. Run the "Online Configuration Change" script.
5. Continue with the procedure.
Field Service:
To edit the FA Port Flag settings in SymmWin go to the DirEdit section of the bin file and select the FA tab. To edit the flags select the flag
setting you want to change and click on any key to toggle it from Disabled to Enabled or Enabled to Disabled. Based on the tables from
above depending on the number of Engines and Data Movers all the ports that have the Data Movers mapped will have the D, ARB, EAN,
ACLX, UWN flags enabled as shown below:
Note: There is an attached Word document that shows all the FA Port Flags for all the Engine/Data Mover combinations in SymmWin.
FA Port Flag Settings:
The following tables show the FA to Data Mover Blade Fiber Channel connections for 1, 2, 3, and 4 VMAX Engine Systems:
Another way to verify if the bin file is a VMAX 10K Block and File bin is in SymmWin go to the IMPL Browser and search for VNX and there should be a
VNX_BAY setting to indicate where the NAS is configured and num_VNX_DATA_MOVER shows the number of Data Movers being configured:
Notes: Notes:
The training documentation for VMAX-10K file has been updated with correct port flags setting for FA ports attached to VNX File.
Engineering are investigating this issue in order to determine what changes need to be made to ensure the flag settings are set correctly
when the SymmWin Wizard builds the factory supplied IMPL.bin.
