TEST METHOD
1. Visual Inspection
Visual Inspection shall be carried out of ensure that it is complete, correctly installed and

During visual inspection, surge counter readings shall be checked and recorded.
2. Insulation Resistance Measurement
The test shall be performed applying the voltage of 5000 Vdc between the line terminal
and the ground terminal.

TEST PROCEDURE

1) Oil Dielectric Strength

Test is carried out in accordance with Standards :


I.E.C. 156-1963; I.E.C. 296-1969
The two oil samples must be taken from the bottom of each transformer compartment.
The oil from the transformer tank and the O.L.T.C. (if mounted) must be tested.
Particular care must be taken to avoid pollution by air moisture or dust when the oil
samples are taken.
Glass containers must be used to move the samples. Six tests must be carried out at
reasonable interval on each oil sample (10 minutes interval is suggested). After each
test, the oil must be stirred with a clean glass rod in order to remove any suspended
matter which has formed between the electrodes after the discharge. Value of the
dielectric strength voltage must be given by the average of the above values.

2) Insulation Test

Note : After each test, the tested circuits must be grounded. Minimum recommended

TEST PROCEDURE

The test must be carried out by applying voltage (low voltage 380 or 220 V.A.C.
normally) of ____ V to H.V. winding at rated frequency.

Transformer ready for energizing

TEST PROCEDURE

All tests listed below must be carried out with transformer OUT OF SERVICE.
All control components and external connections must be tested in normal operating
conditions.

Their operation must be checked according to relevant diagram.

1. Power Supplies

Polarity & Voltage supply must be checked, and setting value of associated
protective devices visual checked.

2. On-load Tap Changer

A complete manual scan must be carried out to check the correspondence of each
position and the control device indication.

2.1) Check the oil level in the gear box.


2.2) Check that with the handle inserted local/remote electrical control is not
possible (if possible).
2.3) With control switch in LOCAL position, check relevant indication in Control
Room.
Check that the device runs correctly from one position to the next, step by
step, by means of local buttons INCREASE - DECREASE. Check also that
no operation is possible from distance push buttons.
2.4) Check the correct operation of end limit switches.
2.5) With control switch in REMOTE position, check that no local control is
possible.
Check remote control, remote signalization & steps indicator.
2.6) Check voltage regulating relay (if provided).
2.7) Motor overload protection setting value visual check.

3) Cooling Circuit

3.1) ONAF cooling system.

Check rating plate, motor insulation, connections at motor terminals, visually


overload protection setting value, direction of rotation and current absorbed
by the electric fans and oil circulating pumps.

3.2) ONAF or ODAF cooling system.

Check rating plate, motor insulation, connections at motor terminals, visually


overload protection setting value, direction of rotation and current absorbed
by the electric fans and oil circulating pumps.

4) Control, Signalling & Alarm Circuits

Check that each component carries out its operative sequence correctly, according
to logic and / or schematic diagrams.
The correct operation of alarms and signals, must be checked and / or simulated.
All devices that when tested are not operative must be manually or electrically
actuated.

5) Metering and Protection Circuit

5.1) Short circuit jumper on CT’s secondary terminals must be removed only
when secondary circuit is a closed loop.
5.2) Metering & Protection circuits shall be tested according to relevant dwg. &
specs.

6) Control Cubicles Heating Elements and Lighting

It shall be checked that heating elements and lighting lamps operate correctly by
actuation of their control equipment.
