COURSE SYNOPSIS

Synopsis:

THEORY OF STRUCTURE covers basic knowledge of facts and principles in calculate the
reactions, bending moments and shear forces for statically indeterminate beams and portal frame
using the slope deflection method and moment distribution method. It also includes basic
principles in calculation the forces in truss members using the equilibrium joint method and
section method for the statically determinate and using unit load method for the statically
indeterminate trusses

(05 : 01)
BEAMS
This topic introduces the students to the application of slope deflection method for
calculating the statically indeterminate beams.

2.0 SLOPE DEFLECTION METHOD FOR STATICALLY INDETERMINATE

(06 : 02)
PORTAL FRAMES
This topic introduces the students to the application of slope deflection method for
calculating the statically indeterminate

3.0 MOMENT DISTRIBUTION METHOD FOR STATICALLY INDETERMINATE

(05:02)
BEAMS
This topic introduces the students to the application of moment distribution method for
calculating the statically indeterminate beams.

4.0 MOMENT DISTRIBUTION METHOD FOR STATICALLY INDETERMINATE

(06:02)
PORTAL FRAMES
This topic introduces the students to the application of moment distribution method for
calculating the statically indeterminate portal frames

5.0 ANALYSIS OF STATICALLY DETERMINATE 2D PIN-JOINTED TRUSSES

(06:02)
This topic covers the application of method of joint and method of sections to calculate
the truss member forces for statically determinate 2D pin-jointed trusses.

6.0 ANALYSIS OF STATICALLY INDETERMINATE 2D PIN-JOINTED TRUSSES

(06:02)
This topic introduces the application of unit load method to calculate the truss member
forces for statically indeterminate 2D pin-jointed trusses.

7.0 THE JOINT DISPLACEMENT OF STATICALLY DETERMINATE 2D

(06:02)
PIN-JOINTED
This topic covers the application of unit load method for solving the joint displacement
of statically determinate 2D pin-jointed trusses.

8.0 INFLUENCE LINES FOR STATICALLY DETERMINATE BEAMS

(05:02)
This topic introduces students to the application of influence lines in calculating the
maximum shear force and bending moment at a section of a beam subjected to a series
of moving loads for statically determinate beam. The topic also covers analyzing the
absolute maximum moment due to moving loads.
