HSM REHEARSALS - EMMA

Sunday – All principals – Will be running show from the start and trying to include all vocal
numbers. Please make them aware this is their last chance to fix stuff by themselves before
chorus is incorporated into everything…good luck.

Tuesday – Full cast – Probably going to do all numbers plus choreography. General notes for
songs are below:

WILDCAT CHEER

 Harmony group meant to be singing bottom line (but most of the time can’t pitch it
and sing the tune). If you can’t get them to manage it’s cool.
 Make sure boys are singing from the beginning as they are lazy.

START OF SOMETHING NEW

 Bar 41 (10,9,8…) supposed to start quiet and crescendo throughout so dialogue is

heard
 Bar 62 – make sure harmony group sing out (bottom line)

HEAD IN THE GAME

 Don’t let them do it until they prove they know the words (they have been told past 3
rehearsals to learn)
 If miraculously they do know it make sure cheerleaders also sing everything (along
with the boys)
 Plenty of energy in middle section (“ball up, boo ya boo ya…”)
 If it’s crap tell them it’s rubbish and tell them they’ll look like fools unless they learn
it by the next time they do it 

AUDITIONS

 All the tutti bits will most likely be dead quiet… should be singing as loud as they do
in their solo sections
 No harmonies in this (Bop Top the Top at the end is in unison – top line)

WHAT I’VE BEEN LOOKING FOR

 Separately they know their lines really well but get confused between harmonies
when together. Harmonies are as written.

WHAT I’VE BEEN LOOKING FOR

 Bar 10 – Troy tends to sing down a good octave… he knows the line but struggles to
pitch starting note with Gab singing.
HSM REHEARSALS - EMMA

STATUS QUO

 Remind them that EVERYONE SINGS EVERYTHING and that there are 7 NO’s
 If people aren’t singing usually one punch to the left side of the face will suffice –
usually the table with Martha at it and the table with the Skaters up the back are
worst at singing out 
 There is a verse with just Troy and Gab – they have a habit of singing over them even
though they shouldn’t be singing

COUNTING ON YOU

 Only Chad, Taylor, Zeke, Martha and Kelsi are singing in this…Jocks and Brainiacs cut
 The 2 boys sing Jocks, 3 girls sing Brainiacs

WE’RE ALL IN THIS TOGETHER

 Zeke tends to overshoot his entry by an octave…(b.17)
 Harmony group entry at b.24 needs to be really loud (bottom line)

BOP TO THE TOP

 I know for a fact Sharpay will be dead quiet so tell her Patrick says be louder
 Chorus tend to forget the lead ins to choruses (e.g “yeah we’re gonna….” etc.) – try
and remind them if they forget

BREAKING FREE

 Troy is singing alternative lines sometimes for easiness. He knows what he’s doing
95% of the time
 Gabriella needs to breathe before her every entry because she always forgets and is
subsequently flat
 Gab also forgets to sing “we’re breaking free” the second time round before the
chorus come in
 When chorus enter (b.45), harmony group should be really loud (second line down)
– if they aren’t singing out do it again until they do!! Been over it with them loads so
they should know it.
 Chorus always forget to sing 2 “breaking free’s” at b.90
 Don’t worry about harmony at the end if it sounds okay in unison…

ALL IN THIS TOGETHER REPRISE

 Mainly harmony group are too quiet at chorus

 Ending usually forget how to count it so if you could clarify how many counts it is at
the end before they sing ‘Everyone”
