The purpose of the activity that we perform in a real Mineral Processing Plant is to let us know how

they reduce the sizes of those big rocks into smaller and even on how they are going to pulverize it to
make it easier in extracting the ore inside those rocks. Crushing can be done in an instant but in getting
the ore inside the rock is not an easy work that’s why the Mineral Processing Plant makes a solution to
make extracting easier. They make three stages of crushing in order to make rock grains become finer
and finer. Hard and abrasive rocks are being crush by compression by placing them between a high
wear-resistant plate/surface. Less abrasive rocks and softer rocks or stones are crushed by impact and
shear but also compressive mechanism.

The Jaw Crusher is one of the three crushing equipment that we used and the first stage of crushing.
As I notice this equipment is the noisiest of the three and I’m not wondering if why because this is the
first stage of crushing. The ore sample is big so the machine uses lots of force to crush the rocks. After
Jaw Crushing I observe that the sizes of our ore sample reduces from big into small rocks but the size of
our ore sample wasn’t enough to get all the ore inside it .That is why we proceed to the second stage of
crushing the Roll Crusher, this crushing machine produces less noise than the previous it’s because the
ore sample size that we pour is smaller. The structure of this equipment is almost the same as the Jaw
Crusher the only difference is that this machine makes the ore sample size smaller than the Jaw crusher
produces and that is so close in getting pulverize. The last stage of crushing is pulverizing and we used
the Disc Pulverizing Machine, this equipment is the smallest of the three and produces lesser noise than
the previous two. I supposed that it’s because the ore sample that we pour is close on being pulverize.
This equipment turns the ore sample into powder and I think the metallurgy processing won’t have a
hard time in extracting the ore within the powdered ore sample.

For me the activity that we perform is quiet enjoyable , it wasn’t that hard, not that long also its
maybe because we only have a small amount of ore sample but it’s a bit dusty no wonder why our
instructor strictly imposed to wear our Proper Protective Equipment.

A sectional view of the single-toggle type of jaw crusher is shown below. In one respect, the
working principle and application of this machine is similar to the Dodge crushers; the movable
jaw has its maximum movement at the top of the crushing chamber, and minimum movement at
the discharge point.

Double roller crusher working principle. The mode of operation of roll crushers is extremely
simple, the standard spring rolls consisting of two horizontal cylinders which revolve towards
each other. The set is determined by shims which cause the spring-loaded roll to be held back
from the solidly mounted roll

Procedure:

1. Find some rocks that will serve as your ore.

2. Wear your Proper Protective Equipment.
3. Weigh 1 kilo of your ore sample put it in a tray and dries it in a drying machine.
4. Use the compressor and brush in cleaning the machine.
5. Before you pour your ore in the first machine make sure to clean it properly to avoid
contamination.
6. First is the Jaw crusher, make sure that the Jaw crusher is already running before you pour your
ore to avoid the machine being choked. In pouring the ore sample pour it slowly and do not pour
it at once. Assign one of your group mates to stand by beside the switch just in case of machine
failure he/she will automatically off the switch.
7. Do the same process in number 6 on the following machines.
Results and Discussions:

1. It is important to dry samples to avoid contamination to avoid sticky ore that can loss the
target of element that we want to get.

2. The importance of comminution process in Mineral Processing is to separate and to reduce

the ore size that is sufficiently small to allow the separation of ore from the gangue.
