The flag of the United States of America - known in that country as the Stars and Stripes, Old Glory
and the Star-Spangled Banner - consists of thirteen horizontal stripes of equal size, seven red and
six alternating white stripes, and a blue rectangle in the sector of the upper left canton with fifty
white five-pointed stars. The bars represent the thirteen original Colonies that became
independent of the United Kingdom and the stars, to the fifty states that form the Union. It
presents a great similarity with the flag of the British East India Company, on which it was possibly
inspired.
