development and competence assurance - 28 discipline staff
schemes (EMPDS and OMPDS) for Process - Specifications, Procedures and Standards
Control & Automation staff - EMPDS/OMPDS development schemes
- discipline software, systems and tools

- discipline knowledge/advice centre
- dissemination and co-ordination
- staff planning
- new technology & development
- technical and PC&A safety

- contractor/vendor approval
- benchmarking

 development, maintenance and integration of Process Control & Automation business


processes within the Engineering function
 succession planning for Process Control & Automation staff in collaboration with the line
 definition, development and maintenance of Process Control & Automation philosophies,
technical standards and codes of practice
 development and maintenance of work categories and an approved list of vendors and
contractors for the provision of Process Control & Automation and CAO materials and
services.
 approval of variances to Process Control & Automation and CAO standards and changes to
the list of approved vendors and contractors
 pursuit and rapid dissemination of Process Control & Automation related technology as part
of PDO's technology Programme
 maintaining external technical relationships in the area of Process Control & Automation
 identification of Process Control & Automation IT requirements, and optimum use IT tools by
C&A staff
 spreading lateral learning across assets teams and exchange of best practices
 identification and assessment of risks in the C&A discipline and provision of advice to
involved Managers on the appropriate method of managing the risk.
 company wide directional advice and support in all process control technology, instrumented
protection, automation, optimisation, instrumentation and CAO matters in terms of
standardisation of systems, infrastructure and commonality of policies, philosophies and
strategic direction.

technologies, standards, contractors, equipment and other commensurate with
overall reduction in life-cycle cost (total cost of ownership)

Growth  make a demonstrable contribution to growth through identification of new
opportunities and development of new / improved processes and tools
 drive process control technology in order to optimise the PFATs throughput
and enable them to operate closer to the constraints
Integrity  development and dissemination of fit-for-purpose codes of practice and
standards which reflect Group/Industry norms and which reflect operations
and maintenance feedback
 promote lateral learning and facilitate application of best practices
 the development of the relevant business processes and systems for
demonstrating compliance with relevant standards in PDO
 development and dissemination of IPF classification guidelines in line with
HSE risk management policy
 ensure the required expertise is available for Process Control & Automation
work and that the necessary checks and balances are in place and operative
to maintain integrity
Technology  the implementation of new, state-of-the-art, Process Control & Automation
technology at the appropriate time (technological risk versus economic
considerations)
 cost-effective technology planning, development, innovation & facilitating
implementation in PDO
 awareness of both SIEP and third-party technologies
 the implementation and maintenance of IPF classification methodology in
PDO
HSE  Health, Safety and Environment related to the Process Control & Automation
(minimum gas emission, IPF) and compliance with legislation, PDO policies,
standards and guidelines
People  fair and honest treatment of all PDO and contractor staff related to the
Process Control & Automation compliant with legislation and PDO policies,
standards and guidelines
 develop, review, monitor and manage Process Control & Automation staff
succession plan
 ensure that section heads in the asset teams monitor and develop Process
Control & Automation staff competencies using approved schemes
 manage Omanisation of Process Control and Automation discipline in line
with targets
 own and implement agreed improvement actions identified by colleagues
during the 3600 feedback exercise
Information  the integrity and safeguarding of all data and information resources
pertaining to the Process Control & Automation discipline.

metering, high BS&W measurement and field bus testing) to
pioneer the introduction / application of new technologies as
required for the Asset Teams' business
 conduct and document an annual review of technology
