Ecotourism is a term or more like a rule to let tourists not to ruin the natural environment

of the tourist attraction places. Ecotourism can or will help to improve local life and the facilities

in the area, it can also separate the culture of that tourist attraction place to other parts of the

world. There are some guidelines that need to be followed to be able to do that: Support the local

businesses by buying the accessories and eat local food and respect the locals and their culture.

The ecotourism take place on Koh Lipe and the island nearby it. The Lipe island and the

local life are being damage by over tourism. My business on this island is a hotel, the name of

the hotel is Bundhaya Resort and there is two types of room, one of it is a resort and the other is

villas. Having many customer is a good thing for my business, if one day all of a sudden the

island have to be shut down for maintenance my hotel and other businesses also have to close

down too. We them need to fire a lot worker because there is no tourist, this will affect the local

jobs because most of the worker in the hotel are people that live on the island. *

The sea gypsies, local people on the island, were the ones that was affected by tourism

the most plus the local’s hotel and the business there too. Before the island became famous there

were not much people so there is no need for any kind of the business, the sea gypsies were poor

too. later on, when Lipe island become famous the sea gypsies then need to have a business of

their own so they can make money to survive. The island then quicky full with resort, people’s

houses, tourist, etc.

33 flight daily to Lipe island and there is approximately 1,500,000 to 2,000,000 visitor visited

Lipe island a year, from ms. Stefanie, some tourist are throwing trash on the ground and smoker

are also throwing away the filter on the island. The waste that are being throw on the ground

often are paper, cigarette filters, and plastic, the time that take a paper to decomposes is 2-5

months, cigarette filters take 12 years, and plastic takes 450 years or more to decompose. Try not

to use any toilets that are near the beaches because the waste will filter through sand and goes

into the ocean and fish can ingest the toxic substances that are filter through, as well as

contaminating the beach.

Trash hero try to pick up trash once a week. Companies and organization are trying to raise

awareness about the Lipe island current condition. The government are banning the use of plastic

bag (The local I interviewed).

There were places that had faced the same problem before and those places are Boracay

island in the Philippine and Koh Phi PhI in Thailand. These two island were over welm by

tourist and eventually tourist cases the two island to be close down for recovery. Even though

people through trash in garbage can, the trash will somehow find its way to the sea, the tourist

kill corals plus the sunscreen. Lipe island might also will face the same faith as the two island.
