Solar Energy: the prime renewable energy source in building sector

The energy options, which human beings have exploited since the 1850 coal boom, have
a finite resource capacity and have clear environmental problems, which already experienced by
all of us. But then also it is clear that with renewable energy use, our energy future does contain
a sensible mix from which we can expect a safe and secure energy future. Gradually and steadily,
we are moving towards renewable energy use, of which solar energy plays a very important part
in building sector.
The Solar Architecture can move our world towards a more sustainable one by
producing designs those are energy efficient and can exhibit the positive and very satisfying
benefits.
Solar energy utilization by human beings is really prehistoric – we know this by studying
the habits constructed by our ancestors who took sensible advantages by trapping the solar
energy, then storing it and finally distributing to functional spaces of in their habitat.
The purpose of Solar Architecture is to attain more efficient use of the sun for both light
and heat. Solar energy technology options are much more numerous and cost effective today
than they have ever been. These technology options can be divided into two groups :
Passive Solar Architecture : Where building act as an envelope only, including or excluding the
local average character of the sun, and thus producing the basic comfort through simple
architectural features which may be partly operable. A few examples of this technology are
sunspace, cavity walls, sunshades, trombe wall etc.
Active Solar Architecture : Where building act as a machine, utilizing the average local
character of the sun to the fullest and enjoying extended comfort through more complicated
gadgets utilizing the sun.
The ecosystems of our uniquely precious planet earth are a complex equilibrium of bio-
systems, easily pushed off-balance by excessive exploitation of global resources in ways that
damage the environment. The environmental problems caused by extraction energy resources
from the earth and the release of greenhouse gases from wasted thermal energy are two such
worries. But, by capturing the solar energy and eliminating the inefficient combustion process
that produce the greenhouse gases , such as carbon dioxide, the ecosystems of our dear planet
earth can be protected.
