Universal Design for Learning (UDL): The students will get on their laptop, chrome book or other electronic
device to look up information on their case study. In order to learn about the different health issues a family
member may have, the students can find that information in any forma they need. They can watch a video,
read a blog, or use any resource they can find.

Lesson idea implementation:

During this lesson the students are going to be learning how to assess a family health history as well as how
that can affect their personal health (using this family health history as if it was their own) and steps they can
take to keep themselves from having the same health problems. To begin, the students will write a couple
sentences on their blog on why it is important to know your family health history. The teacher will go over the
importance of it and give an example of what the students are going to be doing in the class today. The
students will each be given a case study of a family health history. The students will have to write a brief
explanation for each member they are given on who they are, their age, height, weight as well as their health
history. They will look into the different health issues that the members of their family have and they will
create a brief explanation for each member of their family of what they have (For example, if their dad has
diabetes, they would talk about diabetes). The students will create a paragraph or so on what it is, the
different signs and symptoms you get from that health issues and different things that cause it, and how you
can prevent it.
Once they are finished they will write a brief summary of what they can do differently to keep from having
the same health problems their other family members do (to the best of their ability). The students will be
looking at this information and going it for majority of the class. If they finish early they can read each other’s’
blogs to see what information they found about their (case study) health history. The teacher will be walking
around and answering any questions the students might have about their family health history.

Importance of technology: The students are able to share Why is using a website-creation tool critical to the
project? Could the project be completed without this technology? What would be lost without using it? What
other types of technology, if any, are going to be used in the learning experience?

Inspiration (optional): If you used existing example as a model for your project, (whether I part or whole,
include the URL(s) so we can visit. Explain what concepts you “borrowed” from others.

Internet Safety and Student Privacy: The students need to be careful about what websites they use and
make sure they are all secure and viable. The students need to make sure not to write their own family
history on their blog, but make sure they are using the prompt they were given. The teacher can give some
good resources where the students go to look up the information. The students are using a health history that
has been made up and are not using their own. They are also on the school website, so they are not able to
be on bad websites. The students need to make sure they are following the policies put in place for online
safety.

Reflective Practice: The activities I created impact students learning by giving them a practice they can use in
the future with their own health history. It is important have the skill to gather the correct information and
apply it to your own life. This will be the final product after a unit talking about family health. This project
could be enhanced by having the students create their own plan on ways they are going to prevent certain
parts of their family history.
