Going Solar? Local Financing Museum Friday, July 3:00 PM 50 Min Laurie Fielder VSECU www.vsecu.com/v
Makes Sense South 15th green
Workshop Description: If you've been thinking about going solar, now is the time to make this dream a reality. In the excitement
of planning your project and getting, remember to consider how to pay for it. Most people don't have the resources to pay for
their project out-of-pocket, or they are confused by the options. There's the cost of the project, leasing options, the tax incentives,
and sometimes in-house financing that sounds like a good deal. Learn about the economics of financing and about some state-
subsidized loans options, to help make solar a reality for you.
Presenter Email & Biography Laurie.Fielder@vsecu.com
VGreen Program Director, Laurie directs VSECU's statewide VGreen energy savings loan program. Previously, she worked for the
weatherization program at the Central Vermont Community Action Council (now Capstone), where she managed statewide
weatherization education programs. She also worked for a successful residential solar installer, guiding customers through the
solar installation process. In addition to managing the VGreen program, she develops relationships with industry vendors,
contractors, and with various non-profit organizations and industry stakeholders to collaborate on ways VSECU can improve
access to efficiency and renewable financing options for all Vermonters.

Heaters South July 16th AM & Simon Dennis Transformational ctice.org

Workshop Description: A one-hour presentation on the theory and benefits of Rocket Mass Heaters. Rocket Mass Heaters are an
exciting innovation in the realm of sustainability. First developed by fire science engineers to help reduce developing nation's
need for firewood. Since then it has been embraced by the permaculture community as a premier method for low cost, high
efficiency space heating. These stoves are largely smokeless and store much of the woods heat all night. Families have realized
up to a 90% reduction in wood use.
Presenter Email & Biography le_karl@yahoo.com; simon.p.dennis@gmail.com
Karl is a former chemist who escaped the corporate world 18 years ago and turned into Carpenter and Solar Contractor. I
currently live at The Center for Transformational Practice in White River Junction, VT with a larger family of community members. I
have been interested in and have experimented with Permaculture, as well as sustainable and renewable energies for over 40
years. Whether its building a super insulated house or installing solar hot water systems, cutting edge sustainable solutions really
excite and drive me. The ever growing threat from climate change and the ever increasing cost of getting oil has been the
impetus for my interest in highly efficient, low cost wood heating systems like rocket stoves. Building a rocket mass heater last
year and actually using it to heat with has been a valuable experience. Simon and I want to bring some of that knowledge and
experience to others in the hopes that these heaters will become common place which would lower pollution and slow down
wood consumption for Vermont.
Simon started and ran, for over 10 years, a volunteer reuse and repair organization in White River Junction VT called COVER.
Simon then went on to start an intentional permaculture based community along the Connecticut River called The Center for
Transformational Practice or CTP. The connection between spiritual growth and sustainable practices is a strong one for the
members at CTP. The community he founded is now thriving as a designated non-profit dedicated to disseminating information
on permaculture, sustainable technology and to creating an environment helpful for individual spiritual growth. He has
dedicated years to finding sustainable solutions for lowering ecological footprints and fostering community growth.
