Meditation on Tripura, the One (Shiva/Shakti) in the Three Cities

Gurur Brahma Gurur Vishnu, Guru is like Brahma, the creating force.
Gurur Devo Mahesh Varah. Guru is like Vishnu, the maintaining force.
Guru Sakshat Param Brahma, Guru is like Mahesha/Shiva, the dissolving force.
Tasmai Shri Guruve Namah. Guru enlightens and guides us on the right path.
(Guru means the source of Guru is like our ultimate Reality whom we respect
supreme guiding knowledge) with the highest adoration.
Lead me from the unreal to the Real
Asatoma Sat Gamaya Lead me from the darkness to the Light
Tamasoma Jyotir Gamaya Lead me from the temporary to the Eternal (the
Mrityorma Anritam Gamaya mortal to the immortal)
Om. Purnamadah. Purnamidam. That is infinite (perfect). This is infinite (perfect).
Purnat Purnamudachyate. From that infinite perfection
Purnasya Purnamadaya this infinite perfection comes.
Purnameva vashishyate From that infinite perfection this infinite perfection
Om shanti, shanti, shanti added or removed, infinite perfection still remains.
Aum Bhur Bhuva Svah On the absolute reality and That in its three planes,

Dhiyo Yo Naha Prachodayat That it may inspire and enlighten us.

We Meditate on the One seeing through three

Om Tryambakam Yajamahe eyes,
Sugandhim Pushtivardhanam Which permeates and nourishes all like a
Urvarukamiva Bandhanan fragrance.
Mrityor Mukshiya Maamritat May we be liberated from bondage (death)
for the sake of immortality,
Even as the cucumber is severed
from bondage to the creeper.

Om namah Shivaya The three levels of Om are not me or mine

(namaha)
and are Shiva (the absolute which is
one and the same with Shakti and her evolutes
in those three levels/worlds/cities).
ka e i la hrim Sri Vidya / Sodashi Mantra
ha sa ka ha la hrim Fifteen/sixteen syllable mantra
sa ka la hrim of Shakti, Divine Mother
(silence)

Om Mahatripurasundari dhimahi Om. We meditate on that great beautiful One who

lives in the three worlds (literally “cities”).

Om AUM/Om: Absolute reality which encompasses the

(A, U, M, silence) three states of waking, dreaming, deep sleep,
represented by AUM, the three levels of gross,
subtle, causal, the three levels of conscious, active
unconscious, latent unconscious, and the three
processes of coming, being, and going. The
Absolute beyond the three levels is
the silence after AUM.
