The system also provides a navigational interface to the autopilot system. Navi-
gation mode GPS is provided by the GNS430 to the Autopilot System via the Pilot
ICDS-8 and the PFD-35 unit.
The VFR autopilot system is a Two-Axis Automatic Flight Control System, that
provides long-term pitch and roll attitude hold, transparent handling, a full-time
stability augmentation system (SAS) and automatic trim. It also is equipped with
coupled or upper modes such as altitude hold, vertical speed or airspeed via the
longitudinal axis and selected heading or GPS track via the lateral axis. The system
is approved by EASA (European Aviation Safety Agency) STC (Supplemental Type PRE-POST REQUISITE / EFFECTIVITY
Certificate). The autopilot will mainly be operated by a seamless AP-control panel
in the centre console. Due to the complexity of the modification, a pre-buy inspection has to be performed
to check the actual AC-configuration (e.g. a need of standby 2,5" instruments). Pre-
The air data unit (PFD-35) is connected to the existing Pitot Static System and has requisite for kit installation is:
its own OAT probe. Airspeed, OAT and pressure altitude information are transmitted
to the display by means of the PFD-35. The Attitude and Heading Reference System Airbus Helicopters Service Bulletin No. 67-019 must be performed on AC S/N:
(AHRS) is located in the rear avionic compartment. It provides attitude and heading
information. In case of failure, conventional standby instruments (airspeed, altitude - Lower than 1431
and attitude) are provided.

This equipment, mandatory for flights under snowfall, is also used to filter
efficiently sand or dust particles and provides a good ice protection. It protects
the engine from the ingestion of sand. It therefore prevents the premature wear
of the compressor blades due to the ingestion of sand and other contaminants.
In addition, the Sand filter installation also protect the air intake against the
potential induction of flying particles.
Filtering reduces ingress of sand and dust, what enables to reduce premature en-
gine ageing due to erosion. This installation also protects from absorption of sand
and snow. Flights are prohibited under snowfall without the sand filter installed. The
sand filter does not result in any loss of performance.
BENEFITS
• Protects against falling snow absorption
• Self-cleaning system
• Reduces direct maintenance cost

Installation of GARMIN transponder GTX 330 mode "S" as replacement for GTX
327 mode "C". This equipment provides information to the air traffic control
services. The GTX 330 uses the mode "S" in addition to modes "A" and "C"
(existing on GTX 327).
The GARMIN transponder GTX 330 is a radio transceiver which uses radar frequen-
cies. The transponder receives interrogations from a ground radar or an onboard
collision avoidance system or TCAS (Traffic Alert and Collision Avoidance System)
on 1,030 MHz and transmits its response by encoded pulses on the 1,090 MHz
frequency. The GTX 330 device supports the IDENT function which allows SPI pulses
(Special Position Identification) to be activated for 18 seconds. The GTX 330 trans-
ponder responds interrogations from the ATC radar beacon system or ATCRBS (Air
Traffic Control Radar Beacon System) mode "A", mode "C" and mode "S".

New Regulation for HEC (Human External Cargo) operation from November
1st, 2014
Airbus Helicopters focuses on operators performing external hoist operations. The
main intention of this TIP with Reply Form Sheet (RFS) is to inform operators about
the commission regulation (EU) No. 965/2012 entered into force, respectively the
end of its transition phase in October 2014. Operators should by then satisfy the
airworthiness criteria for human external cargo (HEC) operations e.g. in CS27.865.
The current external hoist system was certified according to JAR 27 first Issue, prior
to issuing the airworthiness requirements for HEC.
According to the AMC1 SPA.HHO.110(a), each operator can contact his competent
authority to request an authorization to continue his operations. Some operators
have contacted Airbus Helicopters and requested an OEM solution. The hoist sys-
tem installed on production helicopter has been adjusted to the latest certification
rules (CS 27 Amdt 2), which introduce new requirements to allow HEC operations.
Airbus Helicopters proposes this solution as a retrofit.

(specialized approval)

The helicopter's tail rotor blades are adversely affected by erosion because of the
high rotational speed in hover and the sum of rotational and forward speed during
the flight. Especially the blade tip and the leading edge are not protected to that
extent in sandy conditions. Therefore, the sprayable rotor blade erosion protection
was introduced in order to increases the operating time and availability.

The Health Usage Monitoring System (HUMS) records the status of critical
systems and components on your helicopter. The objective is to detect at an
early stage progressive defects.
The HUMS system is using sensors installed throughout the airframe. This material
is linked to a central computer unit with a data recording and storage system. This
is allowing the support to identify if the helicopter is likely to develop faults that
would need an intervention. This system is monitoring the health of all significant
vibrating and spinning parts such as engines, gearboxes, shafts, fans, rotor systems
etc. Thanks to the record of all of these data, the maintenance of the helicopter can
be proactively performed.
BENEFITS
