1 OVERVIEW
Purpose of this document

The acQuire database was developed by Metech Pty Ltd (Metech) for the storage of
geotechnical data. This document details how to extract data from the acQuire database
using the Datamine acQuire driver in Studio 2 and Studio 2.

Datamine’s acQuire driver allows Studio 2 or Studio 3 to call Metech’s acQuire database
drillhole or point data user interface. AcQuire’s drillhole and point data interface allow
the selection and filtering of data prior to the importing of the data.

Prerequisites

Extracting data from the acQuire database with Studio 2 or Studio 3 uses the Data Source
Driver (EwDSO.dll) and the Datamine Import/Export driver (DSDIE2.exe). With older
installations of Datamine software, these files may not be present or interface with the
acQuire database drillhole or point data user interface. The earliest version and location of
the required files are listed in the table below:

File Version Location

EwDSO.dll v1.0.1602.0 C:\Program Files\Common
Files\Earthworks\DataProviders\
DSDIE2.exe v3.0.1604.0 C:\Program Files\ Common
Files\Earthworks\Components\
Acquire.dll v1.9.1604.0 C:\Program Files\ Common
Files\Earthworks\Drivers\
AcqDirectX.ocx v4.3.9.3 C:\Program Files\acQuire\acQuire DirectX 3.9.3

Table 1. Files-Version and Location

In addition, Metech’s acQuire driver (AcqDirectX.ocx) must also be installed.

There may be no need to update these files depending on the version of Studio 2 and
Studio 3 currently being used.

Acronyms and Abbreviations

If you are going to be using any acronyms or abbreviations in your document, list them
below, using the following table format:

Instructions on how to use Metech’s acQuire database drillhole or point data user interface
are described in Metech’s acQuire help files.

2 STUDIO 2 AND ACQUIRE
Extracting data from the acQuire database

Prior to extracting data from the acQuire database the SQL Server Service Manager must be
running. See Metech’s ‘One Day Tutorial.PDF’ documentation on how to install and start the
SQL Server Service Manager (Figure 1).

Drillhole data

When extracting drillhole data from acQuire, there is an option allowing either Studio 2 or
acQuire to de-survey drillhole information. It is recommended that [No Calculation] be
selected in the acQuire drillhole interface. Studio 2 will automatically de-survey the holes
using Holes3D (Drillholes | Validate and Desurvey in the Studio 2 menu):

To extract drillhole data from the acQuire database:

1. Select Data | Import from the menu

2. In the Data Import window select [Acquire] from the Driver Category list and
[De-Surveyed drill holes] from the Data Type list (Figure 2).

3. Click OK to enable Metech’s acQuire drillhole user interface; the Select Data
from acQuire window. To view Metech’s help file on how to use the acQuire
interface, select the Help button.

4. In the Select Data from acQuire window, select the name of the database
([1Day] is selected in Figure 3) and click Connect.

5. Enter a user name and password if required.

6. In the Select Data from acQuire window, additional tabs for Assays, Geology,
Survey etc. have been added (Figure 4). These allow data to be selected and
filters applied prior to importing the desurveyed drill holes into Studio 2. Once in
Studio 2, the drillholes are de surveyed.

7. On the Survey tab, ensure that the Use Method drop-down list is set to [No
Calculation] before clicking OK.

8. A message appears on the screen stating how many holes have been chosen and
if you wish to continue. Click Yes.

9. In the Save to Datamine window (Figure 5), enter the name of the drillhole file.
There is also a check box allowing the drillhole file to be saved as singe or double
precision.

10. To rename or remove fields prior to importing the data; use the Select Fields or
Rename Fields buttons. See “Renaming and Removing Fields" for more details.

11. On completion, a message states if the data import was successful or not.

Point Data

The selection of point data is the same as for Studio 2 with the minor exceptions’.

2. Select Data | Import from the menu.

3. In the Data Import window, select [Acquire] in the Driver Category and [Point
Samples] as the Data Type (Figure 9).

4. Click OK to enable Metech’s acQuire point data user interface; the Select Data
from acQuire window. To view Metech’s help file on how to use the acQuire
interface, select the Help button.

5. In the Select Data from acQuire window, select the name of the database
([1Day] is selected in Figure 3) and click Connect.

6. Enter a user name and password if required.

7. In the Select Data from acQuire window additional tabs (Select Campaigns,
Geography, and Point Sample) have been added (Figure 11). These allow data to
be selected and filters applied prior to importing point samples data into Studio 2.

8. Select the required data options (Figure 6) and click OK.

9. A message appears on the screen stating how many point sample campaigns
(normally 1) and if you wish to continue. Click Yes.

10. In the Save to Datamine window (Figure 7), enter the name of the point sample
data in the Base Filename text box. In the File Types to Save section of the form,
the base file name appears with the suffix ‘pt’. In Figure 7, the file created will be
called ptdatapt.dm.

11. Clear the Table check box in the File Types to Save section, else a second table
will be created (ptdata.dm) without the required X, Y or Z coordinates.

12. To rename or remove fields prior to importing the data, see “Renaming and
Removing Fields”.

13. On completion, a message states if the data import was successful or not.

Renaming and Removing Fields

Fields may be renamed or removed prior to importation into Studio 2. This applies to de
surveyed drill holes and point data.

Removing Fields

To see what fields will be imported, click the Select fields button on the Save to Datamine
window (Figure 7). All fields will be displayed in the Select Fields for Export window
(Figure 8) and have the same name as in the acQuire database.

Figure 8. Select Fields for Export

Clearing a check box next to a description will prevent that field from being imported.

Renaming Fields

Any fields names greater than 8 characters will be abbreviated (i.e. PROJECTCODE to
PROJECTC). The abbreviated names are displayed in the Datamine Field Name Options
window (Figure 9). Click Rename Fields button (Figure 5) to display the Datamine Field
Name Options window.

Figure 9. Datamine Field Name Options

Renaming a field is done within the ‘Datamine Field Name Options window. In the Select
Fields for Export window (Figure 9), the field ‘Au_ppm’ can be changed to ‘AU’ by clicking
Add and filling in the form as shown in Figure 10.
