CHAPTER I

INTRODUCTION

Background

Students on their first grade already study the Filipino subject. This subject

teaches the students how to read and write in Filipino. Later on, the students enter

secondary education and this subject introduces them to the Philippine Literature.

Every grade level has a certain literature being discuss in Filipino subject. Ibong

Adarna for Grade 7, Florante at Laura for Grade 8, Noli me Tangere for Grade 9, and

El Filibusterismo for Grade 10.

As the students experience different situation and absorb facts, they become

aware or familiar with it. This awareness of a certain topic is called knowledge.

The researchers came up with this study to prove if the lesson in Grade 7

Filipino Literature, Ibong Adarna, remains in Grade 10 Einstein students knowing that

they had different lessons in their past grade levels

Statement of the Problem

1. How many students got the score:

a. Low;

b. Average; and

c. High?

2. What gender got the highest score:

a. Male; or

b. Female?
Significance of the Study

The results from this study will help the researchers to prove that a certain lesson

from previous years is still valued by the Grade 10 students. This study is related to the

issue of removing the Filipino subject in college which has been criticized by the nation.

Scope and Limitation

This research aims to know if a certain lesson in Filipino 7 retains in every

students as year passes by and as they take new lessons. The researchers limit the study

for the investigation to grade 10 Einstein students only about Ibong Adarna. They will

investigate if the students would get a low, average, or high score through answering a

given questionnaire. This study will determine the capability to remember/retain

knowledge for each student. This study will be conducted in the province of _____,

municipality of _____ at ________ in the month of February-March, year 2019.


CHAPTER II

Justification of the Study

The preceding studies and literature presents information regarding how

information retains which is the main topic of the present study. It includes different

factors that affect the knowledge of an individual.

However, this study is different from the given studies because it aims to

describe the retain knowledge of Grade 10 students after 3 years.


CHAPTER III

METHODOLOGY

This chapter presents the research design, research method, data- gathering

procedure, data-gathering procedure, data analysis, statistical statistics, sample and

sampling procedure, locale of the study and population of the study.

Research Design

The researchers used the Measures of Position in this study. Since this study is

concerned of the retain knowledge and aiming to use measures of Position.

Population of the Study

The respondents of the study consisted of Grade 10 , Junior High School

students during the School Year 2018-2019.

Male 15

Female 19

Locale of the Study

This study was conducted to the Junior High School, Grade 10 students of

____________ at _____________ at Grade 10 we’re chosen among the junior high

school students so that the researchers can focus in only one section. Thus the

researchers will be able to identify and study the retain knowledge of a students after 3

years.
Research Instrument

In order to have information and data for the study, the researchers use

questionnaires as instrument in data gathering. The Grade 10, Junior High School

students, will answer the questionnaires.

The bases for developing the questionnaires is for the researcher to know if the

students’ knowledge in Filipino Literature still remain after 3 years.

Data Gathering Procedure

Before the actual conduct of this research, the researchers formulate questions

by the help of internet. The researchers requested the list of names in the class school

year 2018-2019.

Accomplished questionnaires we’re checked and tally.

Statistical Treatment of Data

Measures of position was used. The data were grouped and use Quartile,Decile

and Percentile.

CHAPTER IV

RESULTS AND DISCUSSIONS

This chapter presents the result and discussion of the study.

The Table 1 shows the data computed. The Quartile 1 used cumulative frequency

below, where 8.5th is the score contained, the 9th -12th scores belong to the class

interval: 9-10. So the 8.5th score is also within the interval 9-10. The Q1 class is class

interval 9-10. Therefore, 25% of the students have a score less than or equal to 8.75.

. The Quartile2 used cumulative frequency below, where 17th is the score

contained, the 13th -18th scores belong to the class interval: 11-12. So the 17th score is

also within the interval 11-12.The Q2 class is class interval 11-12. Therefore, 50% of

the students have a score less than or equal to 12.17.

The Quartile3 used cumulative frequency above, where 25.5th is the score

contained, the 23th -26th scores belong to the class interval: 11-12. So the 17th score is

also within the interval 11-12.The Q2 class is class interval 13-14. Therefore, 75% of

the students have a score more than or equal to 14.25.

The interval for the low score or Q1 started from 9-10 down to 1-2,the frequency

within the interval we’re added and the sum is 12. Meanwhile, the interval for average

score or Q2 is 11-12, the frequency within this interval was 6. And lastly, the interval
for high score or Q3 started from 13-14 up to 19-20, and there was 16 frequency within

this interval.

Therefore, mostly of the students got high score with 16 persons, 12 persons for

low score and lastly 6 persons for average scores.

The Table 2 shows the data computed where the scores of Female and Male

students compared.

The Female students used cumulative frequency above, where 9.5th is the score

contained, the 5th-11th scores belong to the class interval: 14-13. So the 9.5th score is

also within the interval 14-13. The female class is class interval 9-10. Therefore, 50%

of the students have a score more than or equal to 10.64.

The Male students used cumulative frequency above, where 7.5 th is the score

contained, the 7th-9th scores belong to the class interval: 10-9. So the 7.5th score is also

within the interval 10-9. The Male class is class interval 6-5. Therefore, 50% of the

students have a score more than or equal to 6.17.

Female class interval starts at 10-9 up to 19-20, the frequency within the interval

we’re added and the sum is 17. Therefore, there are 17 female students got high score.

While, Male class interval starts at 6-5 up to19-20,the frequency within the interval
we’re also added and the sum is 14. Therefore, there are 14 male students got high

score.

As we compared the no. of students that got high scores, female students came

up with 17 persons than the male students having 14 persons.

The contained score is 3.4th . The 3rd-5th scores belong to the class interval: 11-

12. So the 3.4th score is also within the class interval. The D1 class is the class interval

6-5. Therefore, the 1st Decile is equivalent to 10th percentile. 10% of the student got a

score less than or equal to 5.43.

The contained score is 17th . The 13th-18th scores belong to the class interval:

11-12. So the 17th score is also within the class interval. The P50 class is the class interval

11-12. Therefore, 50% of the students got a score less than or equal to 18.67.
CHAPTER V

SUMMARY, CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS

Summary

The main problem of this study was to describe the intelligence level or retain

knowledge of Grade 10, Junior students of _____________- towards a certain lesson

for the past few years. Specifically, this study aims to answer the following questions:

1. How many students got the score:

a) low;

b) average; and

c) high?

2. What gender got the highest score:

a) Male; or

b) Female?

Data needed in this study were gathered through 34 grade 10 ,Junior High

School students of ___________ during the School Year 2017-2019 through the use of

questionnaire.

The study showed that most of the students got high scores. Moreover, the

results showed that female students got higher average score than the male.
Conclusion

From the findings of the study, the researchers concluded the following:

1. Mostly of The Grade 10 , Junior students of ____________ got average

scores.

2. The female students of 10 got higher average scores than the male students.

Recommendations

Based on the drawn conclusions the researchers strongly recommend the

following:

1. Students may enhanced their knowledge and for having a good memory

especially in past lessons, it will help them in the future.

2. To future researchers, to clearly identify the retain knowledge of students, it

is recommended that similar research be conducted to identify and investigate the

intelligence level of students to a certain lesson after 3 years.
