DISCUSSION

Throughout the process of fabricating the drone, all the team members were having lots of
discussions and meetings to readjust and modify due to lots of changes in the components
specifications compared to the design phase. Some changes will compromise the total weights of
the drone so these disparities need to be compensated with higher performances of each
components.

Determining the right propeller involves the selection of the numbers to be used, the size
and dimensions and how the arrangements of the propeller will be made. The propeller have a
direct relationship with the motor since these two are connected together to produce thrust to lift
the drone. But, as the propeller supplied are larger and heavier, it will provide more thrust but the
weight of the propeller will burden the motor that provide torque.

Important criteria in motor selection are the Kv rating and motor thrust. For motor thrust,
we need to fulfilL the requirement of maximum weight of 2kg of our drone and chose the best
motor that can produced said thrust. But, the current motor, SunnySky, is heavier and larger kV
rating but it’s overall performances are better than the Emax as proposed in the design phase.
The criteria for choosing the right ESC for our drone are its rating, battery eliminating
circuit(BEC), connectors and the ESC build(separated or all in one). The ESC chose should also
comply with the specification of the battery to avoid damage to the components.

The last components, battery have four important aspects which are cell count, size,
capacity and discharge rate, C rating. Calculation are made based on the drone current draw from
the battery and flight time required which gave us 7500mAh power battery. Having the right
capacity give us the required discharge rate of the battery which is 10. But, the current battery
supplied have 5200 mAh that will give potential voltage differences of 14.8V. So, this battery
has lower power discharges rate that will compromise the motor performances and other
components.

CONCLUSION

Generally, the flight dynamics and propulsion aspect of the drone was hugely affected by
the changes in the battery powers and motor. These two components are the heart of the flight
dynamics aspect as these two that will create chain reaction to provide the torque to the
propellers. The changes in specifications are compulsory to the improvements of the drone
performances.
