FCE GOLD – CHAPTER 1

NOTE: As soon as you come across an unknown word, find its meaning and practice so many
sentences until you feel comfortable about the word. !!!

1. Vocabulary
- Look at the words in yellow boxes on page 6 and translate and practice those that are new
for you.
- Look at the exercise 1 on page 8 and find the words that you don't know. Than translate
and practice them.
- Look at the yellow box on page 13 and fill in the missing words using the correct prefixes
and suffixes.
- Do the exercise 3 on page 13. (Word formations)
- Look at the exercise 1 on page 14. Try to fill in the missing words, the topic is
entertainment.
- Look at page 8 (spidergram - ex.2) and try to create a similar spidergram for the topic FILMS
AND ENTERTAINMENT

2. Speaking
- Answer the following questions: What type of film do you like best? Why? Tell me about
the film you have seen most recently. Do you know any popular actors? Tell me about
them. How often do you go to the cinema? Where do you prefer to sit there? Would you
ever participate in a TV reality show? Why (not)?
- Answer the questions on page 13 ex. 4

3. Listening
- Look at the exercise on page 7 (Film survey) and try to figure out what kind of answers you
should fill in (numbers, verbs etc.). Then listen to the recording and do the exercise.
- Look at the exercise on page 14 and listen to the recording.

4. Grammar
- Create your own examples for present simple, past simple, present perfect simple until you
feel comfortable about it.
- Do the exercise 3 on page 9.
- Have a look at page 12 exercise 1, do this exercise.
- Create your own examples for present perfect simple and continuous until you feel
comfortable about it.
- Do the exercise Use of English on page 13.
- Do the exercise 4 on page 17. (Gap filling)
- Fill in the correct prepositions in exercise 5 on page 17.

5. Reading
- Look at the text on page 10/11, skimm it (=have a quick look) and find the unknown words.
Translate and practice them. Afterwards read the text carefully and do the exercise 3 on
page 11.
6. Writing
- Look at the sample review on page 15 (ex.3) Then write a short review of a show, concert
or play that you have seen recently. (See page 214 for more information about writing
reviews before you start.)
- Look at page 209 and study how to write a good informal email/letter. Then read the
instructions on page 16, exercise 3 and write an informal email.
