Step-by-Step Description:

● Preparation (materia)
❏ Hard Cardboard

❏ A boxs with a long, tall and wide of 13.4cm x 28.8cm x 11.2cm

● Tools :

❏ Ruler

Step-by-Step Description:
The central idea:
Firstly what our team did was to use the hard cardboard to reinforce the
box seal part of the boxes. As you can recognize from the picture what
we wanted from here was to make the very top part of the box stayed
stand the same. From preparing this, the box will easily replace the
bucket body in our original plan.
● After we finished measuring the hard cardboard, we used the
scissors to cut the hard cardboard by the measurement of
(13.4cm x 8 cm) for helping the top part of the box be stable as
we expected.
● Then we simply stuck this hard cardboard on the 4 sides of the
top part of the boxes.
Step-by-Step Description:
Central idea from the original plan
● Because we did not prepare the bucket so we can not drill holes
on a box because if we use the drills on a box then the drill
might break the box since it not made by the hard plastic. In this
case what we did instead was to cut all of these squares
(showed by the picture) by using a cutter in the box. Cutting the
squares but not circular holes will not affect the quality of the air
filter device because the squares will also give a big enough gap
to allow the air going through and in very smoothly.

● We used the ruler to draw the squares. We didn’t do this step

properly because we didn’t really measure the square’s size. So
the square was really uneven. As you can saw from the picture
some of the squares were very big and some were small. This
would affect the accuracy of the air filter test at the end since it
had a different volume because of the holes were uneven. In
conclusion, uneven squares made we could not estimate how
much the air particle can be going through the filtering material
as a consequence.

Description of changes made to the Design or Plan: Justification for making these changes:
In the first day of making this filtering device, we changed the two main
● Advantage:
materials from our original plan because we did not buy the materials
First things first, cardboard is a degradable material, which means the
from the market. These materials were bucket and the bucket lid.
air filter will not have an environmental impact on the school community
or environmental effect on Chiang Mai after we throw the air filter away
because of the rainy season is coming. The second advantage of the
change we made is that cardboard was a very flexible material that was
easy to cut and change shape. If you use the tough plastic to make the
outside frame it would take more effort to drill the holes. Moreover,
cardboard air filter was disposable which means the quality of the
filtering material will be better than the plastic one because the frame
will not be affected by the bacterial or other particles since you only
going to use it once.
● Disadvantage
Cardboard will make the design of the air filter less professional which
will not be good because then we needed to change our design
specification also. More cardboard is a material that easy to break,
especially in the case that the client is a teacher. There will be more
change the air filter break by the kids than the plastic frame.

Step-by-Step Description:
Original plan:

Step 3: Things you should do in step 3

1. You will choose the best material that does the best job on
filtering the air to be your filter paper of the design.(filter paper
that sells on the market in this case).
2. Cut the filter paper to the right size. The size of the filter paper
should be just about the size of the 5 gallon bucket.
Last, you will replace the filter paper that is been cut into the inside of
the bucket body.

What we did

● Since we don’t finish cutting the square holes on the 4 side of

the box on the 19th of February so we will continue cutting the
square. However, it doesn’t go very well. Because the
cardboard was too easy to break so what happens next is after
we used the cutter to cut the square hole, one of the cardboard
pieces that supposed to be on the box as a protection of the
filtering material just fall from the middle of the box. So we had a
big hole on the side of the box. (As the picture describe). Later
we fixed this problem by using super glue and tape to sicks the
cardboard piece on the box.
Step-by-Step Description:
● After we finished the outside frame of the air filter. We started to
prepare the filtering material.

● The filtering material is not the filtering paper as what we expect

in the plan, it has two layers of different materials which are
tissue and bandage. Because both materials are too small for
the box size so what we do is to cut the material into the same
size of the small rectangle at first. Then we will use the hot glue
gun to stick all of the small rectangle pieces to a big rectangle
that fixes the box last.
Description of changes made to the Design or Plan: Justification for making these changes:
● Filtering materia From our science investigation we found out that paper and
After we finish the science investigation we decided to change out
filtering material from filtering paper to the compound material of tissue bandage will be the best compound material that can filter the
paper and bandage. most concentration of pm 2.5 particles.” Because Bandage is the
materials that will have a lot of holes too because the function of
the bandage is to protect the wound while also keep a breathable
environment for the wound. So the holes of bandage have to be
small enough for not let a bacterial going through which will be
1000 microns - 2 microns. When you touch tissue paper you can
not feel the holes around the tissue paper and you can not see
the holes on tissue paper too which means the holes of tissue
paper is less than 2500 nm because you can feel the holes on
filter paper and the hole of filter paper is 2500 nm. The filter paper
is around 2500 nm. In conclusion, these two materials will work
well because the holes of bandage and tissue paper will be big
enough to let the air through and small enough for catch the
harmful particles on the air.

Step-by-Step Description:

Step 3: Things you should do in step 3

3. You will choose the best material that does the best job on
filtering the air to be your filter paper of the design.(filter paper
that sells on the market in this case).
4. Cut the filter paper to the right size. The size of the filter paper
should be just about the size of the 5 gallon bucket.
Last, you will replace the filter paper that is been cut into the inside of
the bucket body.
What we did:
● We are still working on step 3 today. From our original plan, we
are supposed to replace the filter paper that is been cut into the
inside of the bucket body. But because the size of the filtering
material was just about the size of the box so what we do is to
use tape to stick the filtering material inside the box instead of
just replace it in the box.
Step-by-Step Description:
Original plan:
Step 5:
1. The last step is to combine all items together using the materials
we used. To be more specific, you will take the lid of the bucket
and put the fan thought the middle of the lid. Then just close the
lid of the bucket. So the lid and the bucket will be together as
our final product.
2. Tips You should make sure that the cord and the wire of the fan
is always outside of the bucket body.
● What we did
After we put all of the filtering materials inside the box. We plan
to put the fan (The fan blower downward, facing the inside of the
box.) However, I went shopping last week but I couldn’t find a
PC fan so I did buy the fan. This turnout we didn’t have a
powerful fan to pull the harmful air into the inside of the air filter.
We fixed this problem by asked other classmate to buy the PC
fan for us. Before the fan come this was what our project looks
like. Hopefully, the Monday after the CWW when the fan come
we can do step 5 of the original plan and finish the air filtering
making process.

Description of changes made to the Design or Plan: Justification for making these changes:
We combie step 4 with step 5. Because we didn’t have the fan today. Combie step 4 and 5 together
Step 4:
1. At step 4 you will use the cutter to cut a little notch which is and do it all together when the fan come is what we can do for now.
