Technology changes and evolves in an exponential pace and innovation occurs at an

unprecedented rate. The pace of development instigated dramatic change in the

world. One of the fundamental creations that this change produced is the
Information and Communication Technology (ICT).

ICT systems are increasingly embedded and a clearly integral part in many aspects
of our daily lives. It made possible for us to live in a global village where
distance is no longer a barrier to social contact. Now, I communicate and share
moments of my life, even with my relatives and friends abroad, through Facebook and
e-mail. SMS or text messaging allowed all-time interaction with my peers and
family. While new mobile phones (namely the smartphones) messaging applications
also helped in the fast dissemination of information or data, especially on school
activities and assignments, as well in providing a variety of entertainment.

Information and Communication Technology also plays a vital part in our society. It
transformed the ideas and values of the masses. How we think and act are also
influenced by ICT. We receive daily news and reports through the media (i.e. radio,
television, news program and application, etc) immediately, compared to past means
like newspapers and magazines which take a while to be acquired and circulated.

As a student, I find that ICT also play a major role in today's education. It
enabled instantaneous access to information and knowledge in anytime and from
anywhere. Even in the subjects we take up in Grade 11 in the newly established
Senior High School under the K to 12 curriculum, we can find the undeniable
presence of ICT. In my chosen strand, which is STEM, ICT is necessary to complete
and fulfill the tasks or activities given by our teachers.
