THE RELATIONSHIP PERIOD OF WORK AND POSTURE OF WORK WITH

COMPLAINTS OF LOW BACK PAIN ON PRINTING WORKERS IN RIAU POS

ABSTRACT

Background: Low Back Pain is pain which felt in the lower back area, can be local pain or
radicular pain or both. Low Back Pain is a common problem that often occurs throughout the
world and is a major cause of disability. Riau Pos Office Pekanbaru is an office that produces
newspapers to be marketed throughout the Riau region. The printing workers, Low Back Pain
occur because workers try to maintain the burden that is lifted, such as lifting a newspapers
to much of newspapers, sitting too long and bending while doing work.

Objective: This study goal to determine the relationship between working period of work and
posture of work with Low Back Pain complaints on printing workers in the Riau Pos office
Pekanbaru

Method: The method used in this study is observational analytic correlation with cross-
sectional design. Where researchers use observation designs or designs using dependent and
independent variables that are carried out at the same time and using the Spearman test. Data
collection was carried out in May 2018. The samples used were printing workers in Riau Pos
office Pekanbaru, amounting to 30 people with total sampling technique.

Results: There is a significant relationship between the period of work with complaints of
Low Back Pain, the results of the correlation test obtained correlation coefficient of 0.769
with significance (P value) of 0.000 <0.05. This means that there is a sufficient and
significant relationship between the incidence of Low Back Pain and the period of work. A
positive coefficient value is obtained, which means that the longer the working period, the
risk of experiencing Low Pack Pain and vice versa. Then there is a significant relationship
between work posture and Low Back Pain, the results of the correlation test obtained
correlation coefficient Low Back Pain incidence with work posture of 0.783 with significance
(P value) of 0.000 <0.05. This means that there is a sufficient and significant relationship
between the incidence of Low Back Pain and work posture. A positive coefficient value is
obtained, meaning that the higher the work posture is more risk of getting Low Back Pain and
otherwise

Conclusion: There is a relationship between working period and work posture with Low
Back Pain complaints in printing work in Riau Pos office Pekanbaru.
