FORCE ANALYSIS
1)For the mechanism shown below, determine the forces F12 and F14 due to the action of the
inertia force Fe4. Also determine the shaft torque Ts applied to link 2 at 02.
Given are
A2O= 180 mm, Fe4 = -4500j N

Solution
From the geometry of the mechanism, for the phase shown 𝜃 = 44°, ∅ = 106°,O4 A= 346.1 mm
The effect of the inertia force Fe. is obtained by considering each link separately starting from
link 4. The free-body-diagram of each link dynamic equilibrium is shown below:
Consider link 4

Introducing unit vectors i and j along the x-and y-axes, respectively, we have

The reaction due to link 3 on link 4 is perpendicular to link. 4. Therefore,

Taking moment about 04

This gives;

Substituting for Fe4 and solving for F34 yields;

Again from static equilibrium of link 4 we have ;∑ 𝑓 = 𝑜

Which yields

2)The bevel-gear train shown below consists of the input gear 2 and the output from gear 6,
which is connected to the output shaft. The arm 3 turns freely on the output shaft and carries
the planet gears 4 and 5. Gear 7 is fixed to the frame. Determine the output speed if gear 2
rotates at 750 rpm.

Solution
Step 1:Fix gears 4 and 5 on the arm 3 and allow the arm to turn through x revolutions per minute.
Therefore, gears 4 and 5 will also turn through x revolutions per minute.
Step 2:Fix the arm and allow gear 2 to turn through y rpm. Consequently, all gears will turn as
determined by the gearing ratio.

6 is held stationary. Determine the speed of the arm.

clockwise direction?
