Final Project

One Influential Event

First, you must choose an event that you believe was the most defining moment of the decade of
the 1960s. You may choose from anything major that occurred in the ’60s such as the passing of
the Civil Rights Act of 1964, The Bay of Pigs Invasion, MLK’s “I Have a Dream” Speech,
Stonewall Riots, the publication of The Feminine Mystique, etc. Then, you will determine how
this event has had a lasting impact on today’s society. This assignment has two parts: an essay
and a digital component.

Part One: Essay

After you choose the event that you believe was the most defining moment of the 1960s, you will
write an essay describing the event. You must detail the history of what was occurring in
American society for this event to happen and give a complete explanation of the event. It is
important to discuss key figures of the event, such as political leaders, and what role they played
in the event. Then, you will describe why you believe this event was the most important of the
decade. Make sure to include how this event has influenced American society today or how it has
made a lasting impact on your own life. This essay should be a minimum of 3 pages.

Part Two: Video or Presentation

Once your essay is complete, you will create a video or a presentation using the website Padlet
(https://padlet.com/). In this assignment, you will summarize your essay and describe in-depth
the ways that the event has changed American society. You should use photos and videos of the
event to support your reasoning as to why it was the most influential. In addition, you will add in
a piece of pop culture, such as a song or a clip from a television show or movie, that you believe
represents or connects to your event in any way. Your video or presentation should be about 5 to
10 minutes long. Be creative!
